WA has attracted a great deal of attention this financial year: it holds the third-largest allocation, behind only New South Wales and Victoria; it has lowered its threshold so significantly that even non-local graduates living interstate are keen to try; and with the financial year at the halfway point, WA's actual quota usage remains very low — meaning there are still plenty of opportunities in the second half.

Canberra, having received a larger quota at the end of last year, is gradually releasing more invitations, and as a result the required scores are beginning to fall. The IT and Engineering scores dropped significantly in the round on 23 January.

As a result, by the end of 2022, Queensland had used only 24% of its 3,000 Subclass 190 allocation and just 23.6% of its 2,000 Subclass 491 allocation.

For the new financial year, Canberra has completely scrapped last financial year's occupation list — the previous so-called Open/Closed occupation lists have changed entirely! The new financial year will use the ACT Critical Skills List to issue the monthly Subclass 190/491 invitations.
