Australia’s Subclass 189, 190 and 491 occupation backlogs: popular occupations for invitations and migration through construction trades
As at 30 June 2026, Carpenter and Painter appeared in the 189, 190 and 491 backlog rankings, but pending applications are not invitations. Applying still requires consideration of skills assessments, English proficiency, age, occupation lists, state government requirements and invitation points scores.

Applicants waiting for skilled migration invitations should note that Subclass 189 invitations are now expected on or before 31 October 2026. The ACT’s first planned round will invite only Subclass 190 applicants; its final allocation remains unconfirmed and announced dates may change.
