As always, this week we are sharing success stories and borrowing some good luck from visa grants and invitations.

Fridays always seem to bring sudden updates. NSW 491 has finally released its 2023-24 policy, the last among all states and pathways to do so.

If we summed up Australian skilled migration in one sentence, it would be: match the applicant’s own circumstances with a state-nominated occupation and successfully complete the skills assessment.

With state nomination allocations sharply reduced this financial year, many applicants are looking for alternative pathways. Because the Subclass 482 employer-sponsored visa is processed quickly and is not capped by state quotas, more people are considering a switch to this pathway.

Hong Kong QMAS and the Top Talent Pass Scheme are often compared because they share many similarities, and both give some preference to applicants from “top 100 universities”.

Although state nomination allocations are limited this financial year and competition is intense, the “lucky trio” of social work, early childhood teaching and nursing remain highly favoured occupations in Australia. There may also be another round of Subclass 189 invitations before the end of the year, so applicants have something to look forward to.

Healthcare has always been one of Australia’s preferred sectors. Whether nursing, anaesthesia, dentistry, midwifery or related occupations, these nominated occupations have long been favoured by the states. In other words, no matter how policy changes, migration pathways in this field have remained relatively stable. The sector is also one of the popular fields for the Global Talent (GTI) visa.
