Queensland: opening date to be confirmed, with hints that requirements will be adjusted

Queensland also responded to the state-nomination quota issue on the afternoon of 25 August.

– They received a total of 1,550 places for Subclass 190 + 491 combined, far below expectations

–still considering when to open this financial year

– Because of the quota limits, this financial year the criteria will focus on inviting highly skilled migrants, and lodgement requirements are expected to change

–we suggest you also consider other skilled migration pathways, although other states have also had their quotas cut sharply

– Business and investor migration has confirmed zero places, so they cannot open applications this financial year, but second-stage applications will be processed as usual.They suggest that anyone who was previously considering business and investor migration take another look at whether the GTI is a suitable option

NSW: EOIs can be lodged; the occupation list is under review, with the first round expected in late September

NSW issued one notice each on Thursday and Friday — here is a summary

1. Most application requirements will continue last year’s framework

2. The occupation list is being reviewed in line with current skills needs and priority occupations, with the list and other updates to be announced as soon as possible

3. The first round of invitations is likely to be in late September

4. EOIs can be lodged with NSW at any time — a reminder of what to watch when lodging an EOI:

① Each EOI may select only one visa subclass (190 or 491) and must nominate NSW only, otherwise the EOI is invalid for the state government — but one person may lodge multiple EOIs

② Valid EOIs already lodged will also be considered in upcoming invitation rounds; lodging earlier or later has no effect on your chance of being invited

③ Make sure all documents are valid for more than 5 working days at the time of lodgement (including passport, skills assessment, language results, etc.)

④ The valid work-experience requirements recognised by NSW are shown below

So NSW’s current position is: while the occupation list and policy are being finalised, you can go ahead and lodge

Northern Territory: all new applications are temporarily closed; after this financial year only Subclass 491 will open

From 5pm Australian Eastern Time on 24 August, all state-nomination applications are temporarily closed. Applications already lodged will still be processed under the existing rules, but strictly against the current requirements.Once the existing backlog has been cleared, only Subclass 491 will reopen, with stricter requirements.

Tasmania:

the quota is far below expectations; the state acknowledges this will significantly affect current and prospective applicants and is reviewing how to proceed.
