China’s Three Major Airlines Add Australia Flights!


Air China, China Southern Airlines, and China Eastern Airlines have all recently announced increased flights to Australia.

Air China led the way from 10 January, announcing plans to operate three flights per week between Sydney and Melbourne and Beijing from early February.

The Melbourne–Beijing service will launch on 1 February, operating on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays aboard an Airbus A330. From 3 February, the Sydney–Beijing service will operate on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

From 26 March, both services will increase to daily frequency.


Sichuan Airlines also recently announced: the Chengdu–Melbourne route will resume from 31 January, with the schedule as follows:



Passengers in China can purchase tickets via the Sichuan Airlines official website, the Sichuan Airlines app, or the Sichuan Airlines WeChat mini programme.


China Eastern has also announced the resumption of the Shanghai–Sydney and Shanghai–Melbourne routes, with three flights per week.



Additionally, China Southern Airlines has announced that from 1 February, it will resume direct flights between Melbourne and Guangzhou, with one flight daily.



From 31 January, the Sydney–Guangzhou route will also fully resume, with one flight per day.




Capital Airlines has also announced: from 14 February 2023, the Qingdao–Melbourne international route will resume, providing a new travel option for passengers looking to spread out their Spring Festival travel.


According to the flight schedule —
  • The outbound Qingdao–Melbourne flight JD461 departs Qingdao at 18:50, arriving in Melbourne at 09:15 the following day;
  • The return flight JD462 departs Melbourne at 11:25, arriving in Qingdao at 20:15.

Business class passengers are entitled to 2 carry-on bags (each under 5 kg) and 2 checked bags (each not exceeding 32 kg, with total dimensions not exceeding 158 cm/62 inches); economy class passengers receive 1 complimentary carry-on bag (under 5 kg) and 2 checked bags (each not exceeding 23 kg, with total dimensions not exceeding 158 cm/62 inches).
