Recent NSW Subclass 190 Visa Updates

On 26 November, the NSW Government announced on its official website: “From January 2020, interstate applicants will no longer be considered for invitations!”

With no shortage of quality applicants, NSW invitation scores are now effectively on par with Subclass 189. The top eight in-demand occupations generally require a base score of 85+ points to receive an invitation, while even less popular occupations require 80+ points. NSW takes a somewhat discretionary approach, favouring applicants with work experience and IELTS 8 in each band – however, invitations do not follow a predictable pattern, and meeting the requirements does not guarantee an invitation. In the first four months of this financial year, invitations were issued in the latter part of each month with no fixed date; the state government has confirmed it will not announce invitation release dates in advance.

Latest NSW Subclass 491 Visa Updates

The Northern Inland region – one of NSW’s designated regional areas – revealed last week that the NSW Government is still developing the rules and processing procedures for the Subclass 491 visa. There is no way to rush this, and they believe the official Subclass 491 invitations may not be issued until January 2020. They are also waiting and cannot provide an exact date. This indicates that other regional governments across NSW are all awaiting unified guidance and notification from the state government.

Important Reminder

The new points test system is now officially in effect! Applicants with a partner who does not hold a skills assessment are urged to manually update their EOI immediately. Please take note if you fall into any of the following categories under the new system:
– Studied and lived in a regional area for 2 years (excluding Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane)
– Partner holds language test results equivalent to IELTS 6 in each band.
