WA Keeps Inviting Accounting/IT/Engineering and Common Occupations at Ultra-Low Scores! Just 70 Base Points – and This Time No Job Offer Needed!

The Western Australian Government released its April round of pre-invitations on the afternoon of 6 April! This round differed again from the previous two.

This round focused on Subclass 491

Most of the invitations this round were for Subclass 491: General stream sch2 issued 700 Subclass 491 places, and graduate stream – higher education issued 100 Subclass 491 places.

General stream sch1, by contrast, issued 300 Subclass 190 places and invited quite a few overseas and interstate applicants – but that pathway is all medical and nursing occupations, so it has little relevance for most people.

A closer look at General stream sch2

– The list of occupations is still very broad. IT, engineering, accounting and other common occupations can generally secure an invitation at a base score of 70 (EOI 85), with only a small number requiring a base score of 75.
– Still includes Taxation Accountant and Management Accountant, invited at a base score of 70, but Accountant (general) is still not included.
– For this most popular pathway, the WA Government has up to this round continued to invite only those who have already relocated to the state.

Requirements for applying to General stream sch2

Requirements for WA General stream sch2 Subclass 491:

– The biggest difference from Subclass 190 is that applying for Subclass 491 does not require a six-month job offer in the nominated occupation.

– You only need to reach 65 points (i.e. at least 50 points on your own).

– English of four 6s.

– The nominated occupation is on the relevant list and you hold a valid skills assessment.

Then you can lodge your application.

As with Subclass 190, applying for General stream sch2 Subclass 491 does not require you to be physically in WA – interstate or overseas applicants can both lodge. But as noted above, so far, when it comes to invitations, the state government has continued to invite those willing to relocate on this pathway. Neither WA Subclass 190 nor 491 has any minimum residency period.

WA has run low on its local-graduate pool, so these recent rounds have invited large numbers of interstate relocators – many of our clients have arrived, lodged and secured invitations fast! Heading into the final three months of the financial year, WA has used only 50% of its quota.

So relocate, and you have the chance of an immediate invitation at a low score!

Assess your Plan B

IT occupations are now hard to get invited in the popular states – some receive no invitations at all – and accounting is being invited but only at high scores! That makes WA an excellent Plan B. Get in touch and add our consultant for an assessment!

WA’s policy and invitations this financial year have been excellent – processing has just been a little slow. Recently WA also introduced a new policy aimed at speeding up processing: the state government will no longer require the State Nomination Agreement / two-year residence commitment letter during processing. Removing this step is intended to speed up processing times, and nomination processing has indeed been getting faster lately!
