Tears of joy! The latest round of Subclass 189 invitations issued — accountants and IT professionals invited!

Yesterday, senior officials from the Department of Home Affairs announced at the MIA conference that Subclass 189 invitations would continue. Full details here:MIA Annual Conference Exclusive | Skilled migration to receive ongoing support, Subclass 189 invitations to continue — delegates advocate for onshore bridging visa holders! Official indicates more resources being considered for Subclass 887!

Sure enough, waking up this morning we found over a dozen new invitations in our inbox, with more than 10 additional invitations reported by external sources!

The even bigger surprise is that the occupations invited this round have not received invitations since early 2020 —Accounting and IT. So far, the overwhelming majority of invitations we have seen are foraccounting— and for onshore applicants — with the lowest invitation score seen so far being100 points.

External reports mention an accountant receiving an invitation at 95 points — take this with caution,as it may be a case where the work experience end date was not entered, resulting in an automatic 5-point bonus upon reaching three years. Of course, we hope to see invitations issued at even lower scores.

On the IT side, external sources report seeinga computer software engineering applicant at 105 pointsreceiving an invitation.

Onshore OR Offshore
Based on current information, the majority of invitations are concentrated among onshore applicants(the high scores make this apparent), with invitations issued from highest to lowest points. This is yet another sudden reversal from the Department of Home Affairs — but it is welcome news, as it shows the pathway is not completely closed off.

Volume of this invitation round
Based on what we have seen so far, the number of invitations in this round appears to be fewer than the 12,000 issued in each of the previous two rounds — though it is also possible that the round has not yet concluded.
We invite you to bookmark or continue following this post. As new invitations come to light, we will pin updates at the top of this article. We also encourage anyone who has received an invitation, or who received theirs earlier or at a lower score than what we have shared, to leave a comment below.

A selection of invitations we have received to date:

Based on current observations, this round appears relatively small in scale, with scores noticeably high — likely because the most in-demand occupations are being targeted. That said, given the score levels and the fact that onshore applicants are being invited, this at least gives accountants and IT professionals some reason for hope.We are only in the third month of the financial year. We hope Subclass 189 invitations will continue and benefit more applicants — a reduction in scores is, of course, what we are all hoping for.
