University of Queensland eases entry requirements for medical programmes
NO.2
For many Chinese families, a parent’s dream is for their child to one day become a doctor. Beyond Australia’s high salaries, medicine is also one of the most respected professions in society.
The University of Queensland Doctor
of Medicine is a postgraduate medical programme open to students worldwide, covering clinical, basic and community medicine. The four-year programme is run by the UQ Faculty of Medicine and is designed to give students the training and practical experience to become tomorrow’s medical professionals. It is worth noting that although it is called a “Doctor”, it is in fact different from a traditional PhD — it is an Australian AQF Level 9 programme. UQ currently accepts applicants from Year 12 right through to PhD graduates. If you have completed or are studying Australian high school, you can apply for the MD programme; once selected, you will sit a mini-interview, and if you are fortunate enough to be admitted you can freely choose a UQ bachelor’s programme before going on to study the MD:

NO.4
The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) has entered into a close partnership with the Australia-United Kingdom Chamber of Commerce. The initiative aims to foster collaboration in business and innovation between Australia and the UK, and to strengthen the economic ties between the two countries by giving students and businesses more opportunities and resources.Under the programme, students from Australia and the UK will be able to take part in exchange programmes and internships, visit member businesses of the Chamber of Commerce, and gain practical experience and career-development opportunities.
The opportunity gives many Australian and UK students and professionals deeper insight into areas such as applying environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards; green transformation in business; the spread of digitalisation and the adoption of emerging technologies; analytical thinking, creative thinking, adaptability and flexibility, artificial intelligence and big data; as well as leadership and social impact.
Deakin University STEM project update
NO.5
On 10 May,researchers at Deakin University are using Virtual Haptics technology to run a project called “Virtual Excursions”, delivering STEM lessons remotely to students at regional and remote schools. These lessons cover a range of subjects such as physics, chemistry and biology, allowing students to experience scientific experiments and phenomena first-hand without leaving the classroom. STEM has become a hugely important field in today’s world, and it is foreseeable that more and more jobs will be STEM-related. We encourage students to practise their problem-solving skills — the STEM field places great emphasis on problem-solving, encouraging students to think proactively, ask questions, and seek answers through science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Virtual Haptics is a virtual-reality technology that uses gloves and tactile-feedback devices to simulate the feel of different objects, letting students experience how real objects feel. The technology gives students a richer, more rounded STEM learning experience and helps them better understand and apply STEM concepts. The project has already been trialled in a number of regional schools in Victoria, with positive results. Virtual
Haptics technology not only boosts students’ interest in and understanding of STEM subjects, it also helps teachers deliver STEM content more effectively. Thistechnology will help more regional and rural students access high-quality STEM education and enjoy greater opportunities and prospects in the future.
