South Australia releases this financial year’s state nomination policy! New stream added to the Talent and Innovation programme! Local graduates can have the work experience requirement waived! Some occupations opened to overseas applicants!


Just in, South Australia (SA) has released its 21-22 financial year state nomination policy, a little earlier than expected,with applications officially opening at 8am on 20 July 2021 (SA time),one day later than the 19th previously announced.


South Australia is also one of the states with an increased state nomination quota this financial year,with 2,600 places each for 491 and 190, across four streams. The first three are for onshore applicants: the Talent and Innovation programme, the stream for those currently working in South Australia, and the South Australian local graduate stream.The fourth stream is the one mentioned at the end of last financial year —the overseas applicant stream, and the eligible in-demand occupations have now been released.



1. Talent and Innovation programme

A new stream has been added to the Talent programme, as follows:

 

1. Employment stream (highly skilled employed applicants) — new information:

— In addition to the existing requirements, interstate applicants must now hold a valid visa and a South Australian job contract

— Preference given to applicants with IELTS 7.5 (or equivalent) or above and extensive experience

— If the nominated occupation is only available under the Talent programme, and the applicant has already worked in a related role in South Australia for 12 months, an ROI may be submitted


2. Outer Regional South Australia workforce stream (applicants working in regional South Australia)

— The employer has been operating in regional South Australia for 12 months

— The applicant has already been working for that employer

— Multiple waivers/concessions may be available


3. Start-up and Small Business stream (South Australian start-ups and small businesses)

Operating for 12 months, residing for 24 months

with pre-tax personal income of $53,900 derived from it

the only stream for ABN holders

sole trader, partnership, company, or trusts all eligible


4. High Performing Graduate stream (outstanding South Australian graduates) – work experience may be waived, subject to specific requirements

Bachelor’s degree or above from South Australia, relevant to the nominated occupation

Priority processing for health and natural science graduates

For some fields, a GPA of 5 is sufficient


5. Independent Talent stream (South Australian applicants with an outstanding overall background)

Local applicants

EOI total score of 95

Extensive background


2. Long-term residence in South Australia

Local graduates or their spouse/partner

Three years’ long-term residence – having worked in any Skill Level 1-3 occupation or as a Carer/Aide in the past 12 months, or currently working in such an occupation; the 12 months may be accumulated over the past three years, at 40 hours per fortnight.


Non-local graduate temporary visa holders —

in the past 12 months, having helda role in any Skill Level 1-3 occupation or Carer/Aide occupation,


Safe Haven Enterprise visa

five years of continuous residence, with 12 months’ work experience in any occupation in South Australia, at 40 hours per fortnight — Subclass 491 only.

 


3. South Australian local graduate stream

How do you become a South Australian graduate?

Completing, within South Australia,one year or more of study —applicants, with course exemptions not exceeding 50%.


What are the post-graduation work experience requirements for South Australian graduates?

At least 20 hours per week,though 35+ hours per week will still be considered for priority allocation of the 190. Relevant experience generally only needs to match on the first two digits of the ANZSCO code; for some nominated occupations, related but different work within the same industry may still be considered, similar to last financial year — the specific requirement depends on the details of the nominated occupation

Relevant work experience of at least 3 months is required (for 491 or 190); the specific requirement depends on the details of the nominated occupation, and some occupations may require a year or more


How can South Australian graduates have the work experience requirement waived?

There are the following three opportunities:

  1. Applying via the South Australian Innovation and Talent stream

  2. being an outstanding South Australian graduate, such as a research master’s or PhD holder, or an applicant with a high GPA, etc.

  3. The applicant or their spouse/partner has lived long-term in South Australia and held a skilled role for 12 months or more

Overseas applicant stream

Some trades and healthcare occupations can apply from overseas. The specific requirements vary by occupation, and applicants will needa skills assessment for the nominated occupation, and most also require at least 5 years of highly relevant work experience in the nominated occupation within the past 8 years. Some also have relatively high EOI score requirements, as well as a requirement of four 8s in the language test.
