Since Victoria opened the Workforce Skills Pathways for early childhood educators and chefs last September, many local early childhood educators working in Victoria have been receiving Victoria pre-invitations:Based on Newstars’ data, many early childhood educators with scores of 80 + 5 (invited for Subclass 190), 70 + 15, or 55 + 15 (invited for Subclass 491) have received invitations.

An EOI score of 80 could be made up of: Age 30 points + Language (four 8s) 20 points + Master’s degree 15 points + 2 years study 5 points + Single 10 points = 80 points

Recent success cases are as follows:

1. Student Z — EOI 90 + 5 (6 months local kindergarten work)

2. Student J — 85 + 5 (6 months local kindergarten work)

3. Student L — base score 80, 3 months local teaching work

4. Student S — base score 70 + 15 (3 months regional area early childhood work)

5. Student W — base score 80 + 5, Subclass 190 invitation (3 months local kindergarten work)

Early childhood education — also known as early learning or pre-primary education — has consistently been one of the most in-demand occupations in the Australian market, and is a popular choice among international students dreaming of working and settling in Australia.

The field covers Early Childhood Teachers and workers — essentially kindergarten teachers who care for and educate children aged 0 to 5, before they begin primary school (Pre-primary School).

In Australia, early childhood education encompasses various roles and positions. The two most common are:

• Early Childhood Educators (ECE):

Responsibilities include assessing children’s developmental needs, developing plans to meet those needs, and teaching children new things. They facilitate activities designed to support social and intellectual development. ECEs typically work with infants, toddlers, and pre-schoolers, in settings such as pre-school classes, childcare centres, kindergartens, and some primary school classrooms.

• Childcare Worker (Daycare workers)

This role involves caring for children in childcare centres or family day care settings. Childcare workers are responsible for supervising children and ensuring their safety.

During the pandemic, early childhood workers — like healthcare and other frontline workers — kept our communities running. In recognition of this, Victoria and other states have introduced favourable migration policies as a way of giving back to early childhood educators.

Different levels of early childhood courses lead to different skills assessment outcomes — some pathways make migration straightforward, while others make it very difficult. When choosing a course, always confirm how the skills assessment works first. Generally speaking, TAFE and college-level Early Childhood Education and Care programmes are relatively affordable, shorter in duration, include practical placements, and can satisfy skills assessment requirements.However!! Childcare Worker is not on the skilled migration occupation list (making it very difficult to obtain Subclass 189/190/491 visas), so students hoping to use this pathway for migration should think carefully.

Generally speaking,if you want to migrate through an early childhood education pathway, you can pursue an undergraduate degree or a postgraduate diploma.
