[Offshore] Finance, Marketing, HR, Engineering Drafting, Teaching, Insurance Broking and More — Low-Score Invitations Keep Coming. Opportunity Favours the Prepared.

So far this financial year, as someone who has long specialised in offshore skilled migration, two categories of occupations have genuinely surprised me. The first was the 6 October Subclass 189 invitation round, where all offshore engineering applicants were invited at just 65 points. The second is the ongoing trend over recent months of arts, commerce and business applicants receiving invitations for Subclass 491 and Subclass 190 state-nominated migration, with the majority of scores clustered at base scores of 55–75.

Opportunities have always favoured the prepared. Today, we focus on how arts, commerce and business applicants can prepare and lodge their applications. Step one in skilled migration: get your skills assessment done.A skills assessment determines whether you meet the requirements for your nominated occupation and recognises your years of work experience. Different occupations are assessed by different assessing authorities, and each authority has its own assessment criteria.

Around 90% of arts, commerce and business occupations are assessed by the VET assessing authority — full name: VETASSESS — one of the principal assessing authorities designated by the Department of Home Affairs, and the authority covering the greatest number of occupations.

VETASSESS

VETASSESS primarily assesses two broad types of occupations:
I. Professional occupations
II. Trade occupations
