Late last year, business group representatives called on the government to raise the PR quota from 160,000 to at least 190,000, and in particular to restore the skilled migrant proportion. From their perspective, a significant stimulus is needed to truly address Australia's skills shortages. And now it has started — businesses and employers are calling for the migration quota to be raised to 190,000, with 2/3 allocated to skilled migrants. A population rebound will take years!

Subclass 190 competition is at fever pitch — are you still wasting your temporary visa time in the major cities? Plenty of Subclass 491 opportunities are within reach! Includes a state-by-state 491 comparison chart.

Subclass 190 grants permanent residency in one step, while Subclass 491 is a 'near-PR' — a five-year visa that entitles holders to Medicare. Holders must continuously live and work in a designated regional area (anywhere outside Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane), and must use three Notice of Assessment documents — one per financial year — to demonstrate pre-tax gross income of at least $53,900 in each of three financial years before applying for Subclass 191 permanent residency. Pre-tax income is not limited to salary; it can also include ABN self-employment income, small business income, interest, and other income sources.
