For international students, especially those studying in South Australia, when it comes tomigrationpolicy, the South Australian Governmenthas alwaysgiven the most favourable treatment to localinternational students.Drawing on the migration policy South Australia announced in February 2021, this article recommendsuniversities and postgraduate courses worth studying in South Australia.
This is especially aimed at those whohave never studied in a state other than South Australia(suited to the 190 visa for a one-step path to PR),or students who have studied only briefly in another state(who have a chance at the 190 visa, though the 491 visa is more likely),we strongly recommend studying an undergraduate or postgraduate course in South Australia, then applying for South Australian 190/491 state nomination after graduation to enjoy the state’s favourable graduate policies. Summary of South Australia’s latest state nomination policy
—After comparison, we found that almost all of the popular nominated occupations from previous years remain on the list, with the state government giving everyone a chance to apply, including over 400 nominated occupations covering finance, marketing, engineering, computing, architecture, landscape design and more
—Applicants for South Australian coursework master’s programmes with an overall IELTS score of 7 or an overall PTE score of 65 or above, and a GPA of 6.0 or above, can also apply for a work experience waiver when submitting for South Australian state nomination
—Different occupations have different work experience requirements, and the region where the work is based also has an effect, but the work experience requirements have been eased somewhat — for example, where previously the applicant’s job had to be closely related to the nominated occupation, now it is enough for the first two digits of the ANZSCO code to match
—For South Australian graduates, the work experience requirement for many occupations can be waived down to just three months in a current job, and for high-achieving graduates the entire work experience requirement can be waived
—Offshore applications are temporarily closed, with only onshore applications within Australia currently being accepted

A standard South Australian graduate needs to currently be working in South Australia for three months (in the nominated occupation or one highly related to it).
—There’s a favourable policy on work highly related to the nominated occupation: after graduating, social work students often find it difficult to land a job with the actual title of “Social Worker”, but the state government recognises the four community-based occupation groups under UNIT GROUP 4117 WELFARE SUPPORT WORKERS, which are relatively easier to find. For example, roles such as community worker, youth worker, disability worker, or support worker can all help social work graduates meet the state nomination work experience requirement.
—South Australian high-achieving graduates can have the three months’ work experience waived.
— For the 190 visa, graduates from other states currently need 18 months’ work experience in the Adelaide metropolitan area, or 12 months in a regional area of South Australia (in the nominated occupation or one highly related to it, meaning an occupation whose first two ANZSCO digits match). For the 491 visa, 6 months’ work experience in South Australia is needed (in the nominated occupation or one highly related to it).
The nominated occupations recommended above are well worth considering, with a relatively low bar for South Australian graduates applying for 190 state nomination (a one-step path to PR).
