It’s Really Happening! PM and Health Minister Jointly Confirm: Borders Open on the 15th! Check International Arrival Requirements by State!

The 15th — we’re waiting for you to return!

This morning, the long-anxious wait over Australia’s border reopening finally came to an end!At this morning’s press conference, the Health Minister clearly confirmed that the border will open on the 15th as planned!

Some of you have asked — with the Minister and PM making statements every other day, could this just be wishful thinking again, or are we about to be strung along?

Take a look at the language used by Australian media and the Minister this Monday:“has reassured” “would be” “will be” “has been reaffirmed”——

Whereas two days ago it was “hopes,” “expects,” “No confirmation” ——

Then, the official Prime Minister’s announcement that everyone had been waiting for also arrived——

Of course — for temporary visa holders, the journey back to Australia over the past two years has been anything but smooth. We understand why everyone is nervous, and until you actually land, nobody can truly say 100% — that 0.1% chance of something going wrong always lingers.

So here’s wishing everyone who has booked a flight recently a smooth and safe landing!

Confirmed: Australia’s borders reopen on 15 December!

QLD ↔ VIC / NSW / Canberra opens today

On another front, Queensland’s border opening to Victoria, New South Wales, and Canberra has truly come into effect — today really is a great day, with flights reportedly almost fully booked.Travellers arriving from these three states are not required to quarantine, but must provide a negative COVID-19 test result taken within 72 hours before departure.

By 6 am this morning, the highways were already packed with vehicles…

Booster shot interval shortened to 5 months

In other related news: the Federal Government announced over the weekend thatthe waiting period between vaccine doses for booster shots will be reduced from six months to five months.

“Receiving a booster shot five months or more after your second dose will ensure stronger and longer-lasting vaccine protection against severe illness, and should help prevent the spread of the virus.”

Regardless of which vaccine was previously received, both Moderna and Pfizer are available as booster shots; it is understood that the Moderna booster dose will be half the standard amount. Australia has now seen more than 670,000 people receive two or more vaccine doses.

Western Australia announces state border to open 5 February next year

From 5 February next year, international arrivals who have received two approved vaccine doses will not be required to quarantine. They will need a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours before departure, a further test within 48 hours of arrival, and another on day six. Those who have received an unapproved vaccine or are unvaccinated will be required to quarantine in a hotel or designated facility.

Interstate travellers planning a stay of no more than 5 days (with two doses of an approved vaccine) will need a negative test result taken within 72 hours before departure; those staying longer will also need a test within 48 hours of arrival.
