1. New financial year state nomination quotas to be revealed in a few weeks; WA remains steadily favourable
This Monday the WA state government and StudyPerth kicked off a national roadshow, mainly to introduce WA’s study and migration policies. The Newstars team attended the first session, held in Melbourne, and brings back the following key news:

– State nomination quotas will be revealed in the coming weeks, with WA’s new financial year state nomination policy to be announced soon. The quotas for other states’ nominations are expected to be known around the same time.

WA’s new financial year policy will only involve minor tweaks, and the state government will shortly publish the new financial year’s invitation rules and policy on its official website, possibly adding some occupations in short supply to the priority ranking. However, invitations in the new financial year will continue to be issued at a regular cadence, and it was disclosed that WA’s state nomination policy will remain steadily favourable for the next 2-3 years, especially the policy for locally graduated international students.

– In the second half of this financial year WAhas already been working to speed up the processing of nominations, with greater improvements to come in the new financial year. This week we have also seen Subclass 491 processing pick up pace, with a pre-invitation received in early May and the formal nomination received by the end of May.

WA’s current policy for local international graduates:Most common occupations are on the list. With four 6s in English and a skills assessment, you can apply for Subclass 190 without work experience or a job offer, and there are plenty of opportunities to be invited.By the second half of the financial year, even those who graduated in WA but are no longer in the state can be invited. The points required are also very low – most occupations, including popular ones, can be invited at 65-80 points.

For more details, see:The premier suddenly resigns… but it won’t affect WA’s state nomination staying stable in the new financial year, possibly with priority occupations added! New state nomination quotas will be revealed within weeks!

2. NSW RDA stream now only processing regional cases on a priority basis; invitation roundup

Last week we explained thatthe NSW Subclass 491 RDA stream now only accepts applications from three regions: Far West, South Coast and Sydney. This week we have seen the RDA prioritise processing, with some clients told that the Hunter region is helping the Sydney region process some applications,to avoid being unable to finish processing applications before the end of the financial year.

The invitation data we have seen this week is as follows, with points still very low and invitations continuing to concentrate on offshore applicants – the majority of whom we are seeing are engineering applicants. Offshore applicants, or offshore applicants on lower points, can try the State government stream, where the points required are just as low.

3. Victoria issues a small round of invitations; Canberra’s latest round remains very low on points; a snapshot of where each state nomination and other stream currently stands
Victoriaissued three rounds of invitations in May and another round on 1 June. This round was smaller in scale, and the points required were correspondingly higher. The state government is doing its best to use up all of its remaining quota, and the data we have received for this round of Victorian invitations is as follows:
Adding a Contract Administrator on 50+15 points

Canberrareleased the matrix invitation data for the 25 May round this week. Whether offshore or onshore, the matrix invitation scores remain very low, with most offshore Subclass 190 cases needing only a matrix score of around 65, and Subclass 491 needing as little as 50 or even less. Most occupations onshore can also be invited at a matrix score of 70 or lower!

Offshore applicants applying for Subclass 491 need only one year of work experience and four 6s in English; the EOI only needs to reach 50 points on its own, a job offer is not mandatory to lodge, and the matrix scores are very low too. Get in touch with us to assess your matrix score – you might just pick up a lucky opportunity!

While we’re at it, here is a snapshot of where each state nomination stream stands as at 1 June:

4. Is the Department of Home Affairs flooding parent migration applicants with “spam”?
From around this Thursday, the Department of Home Affairs began frantically emailing parent migration applicants. From morning to night, our inbox was flooded. The main content of the emails reminds applicants to promptly notify the Department of Home Affairs if their circumstances change, and attaches two forms:
Form one is the parent visa processing centre form, used to advise of updated circumstances;
Form two simply won’t open…
Some clients asked whether this meant a case officer had looked at their application. In fact, it does not.The email specifically notes that receiving it should not be taken to mean your case is being processed – it has nothing to do with processing progress. Moreover, quite a few of our clients who were already granted PR within the past six months to a year also received this email.

So this is simply an indiscriminate mass mail-out. By now, the parent migration quota is almost used up, so we won’t see as many grants going forward. The good news for the next financial year is that Subclass 143 has been allocated a higher proportion of the quota, with 6,688 places.
Subclass 143 document-request notices have currently reached early May; we hope everyone receives good news in the new financial year.
