Multiple states are progressing plans to welcome back international students
Processing
Following New South Wales and Victoria, other states have been rolling out plans to bring international students back to Australia — some sooner, some later, but all are in the works and within reach.
New South WalesThe current plan is for a 6 December flight from Singapore to Sydney; students have already received confirmation emails about flying from China to Singapore to join the chartered flight;
Victoriafollowing closely, also scheduled for December;
Queenslandalso progressing, with a timeline of early next year; quarantine arrangements are being prepared;
Based on today’s email from the University of Canberra,Canberra‘s pilot programme is tentatively scheduled to begin on 8 January 2022, with a portion of places reserved for Chinese students; expressions of interest are already open. The ACT Government previously stated that international students returning to Australia would be completely quarantine-free — subject to having received two approved vaccine doses (currently Sinovac and Sinopharm BBIBP-CorV in China).
Northern Territoryas the first state/territory to successfully carry out an international student pilot programme, has recently indicated it is formulating a plan to submit to the federal government; if approved, two flights carrying up to 180 students each would arrive in Darwin in January 2022.
Western Australiaalso revealed its latest pilot plan in recent days; the government anticipates welcoming international students back to Perth when the two-dose vaccination rate reaches 90% next year.
The return of international students to Australia to continue their studies is drawing ever closer. If you are overseas or within Australia and are considering studying as a pathway to migration, today I’d like to recommend — beyond the well-known fields of IT, nursing, early childhood education, and engineering — a niche buthighly favoured by state governments as a migration-pathway field:——Speech Pathology— graduates of an accredited programmecan obtain their skills assessment without needing any work experience!
