Expedited Processing in 2023 — Overseas Applicants Still Have Strong Opportunities!

After the Australian Christmas break, the GTO team returned to work and good news began flowing in. The GTI visa EOI processing progress has also been updated for 2023.

GTI EOI

Processing Progress

As anyone familiar with the GTI visa will know, once we submit an EOI, there is no substantive way to track the status of an individual EOI application. The only thing we can do is contact the GTO team by email, and each time we receive an automated reply showing the latest EOI processing progress.

As of 6 February 2023, EOI processing has only reached applicants who submitted in September 2021.This means that applicants who submitted their EOI after that date and have not entered the priority processing stream are still waiting.

Visa

Processing Progress

EOI processing and visa processing are two separate steps — only once an EOI has been invited can a Subclass 858 visa application be lodged.

According to the Department of Home Affairs website, 90% of Subclass 858 visa applications take 168 days to process, though some applicants may take longer.

GTI   Visa Application Requirements

1. Applicants must work in one of the ten eligible sectors;
2. Demonstrated professional achievement in their field, including notable contributions, outstanding ability, and similar;
3. Nomination: the nominator must be an Australian citizen, Australian PR, Australian-based organisation, or a New Zealand citizen active in the same field;
4. Must meet the income threshold: currently AUD 162,000 pre-tax (exemptions apply);

Based on our success stories, there are a few commonly misunderstood points worth noting:

1. Applicants over 45 years of age can and do receive invitations and visa grants — being an older applicant is not a barrier;
2. A local Australian job offer is not required — applicants without one can still receive an invitation and have their visa granted;
3. Not being in the priority processing stream does not mean there is no opportunity — many applicants have waited more than a year;
4. If an EOI is declined, you can prepare additional documents and resubmit — the GTO team will continue to assess it;
5. If you do not have a nominator, you may approach a relevant Australian industry association for nomination
