Diploma to Master’s in IT: Study, Migration and a High-Paying Career in One Leap

In recent years the rat race has only intensified. Most employers now hire from a bachelor’s degree upwards, and many diploma-level students find themselves hemmed in by qualification requirements — unsure of their career direction, drawn to higher-paying roles yet unable to clear the entry bar, and repeatedly knocked back in the job market! With promotions and pay rises hitting a ceiling too, rather than keep grinding away at home, why not study overseas and go from diploma to master’s — getting there in a single step!

When it comes to the diploma-to-master’s pathway, the first thing many people think of is an MBA. But if you would rather specialise in one field and master a practical skill, then IT is hard to beat~ In Australia, IT is both a high-paying field and a migration-friendly one. Here’s a look at the career outlook:

The IT industry

Career outlook in Australia

According to Australian government figures, as at 2021, the technology sector had added 33,000 new jobs over the previous 3 years. Job growth in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields was striking — twice the rate of job growth in other industries.
Data from the Australian jobs site SEEK shows that pay in the IT industry is also very healthy: the median annual salary is around 99,999 AUD, entry-level roles pay around 77,000 AUD, and senior staff earn around 140,000 AUD.More importantly, IT salaries have risen at an astonishing pace since the pandemic.

A number of common IT occupations now have average salaries in the six figures!
