Social Work
Now that we’ve covered nursing programmes that require no prior background, let’s look at social work options that are also open to students without a relevant undergraduate degree!

First, when many students or parents consult with Mady, they often don’t have a clear picture of whatsocial work in Australia actually involves, solet’s briefly explain what social work is as a field — and what career prospects look like after graduation.

Because Australia has a well-developed social welfare system and high levels of social support, demand for social workers has consistently been strong. In particular over the past few years during the pandemic, the number of invitations issued by the Department of Home Affairs to social work applicants has been steadily increasing!!

The role of a social worker:
Social work graduates have a wide range of employment options. The core purpose of social work is to support disadvantaged individuals, families, and communities — helping them adapt to contemporary society, access fair resource distribution, and achieve a better quality of life, thereby addressing a broad range of social issues. Employment settings include government social service agencies, public and private hospitals, child protection organisations, family violence services, housing services, aged care and disability services, mental health organisations, and family counselling services.

With such abundant job opportunities, even if you have never previously studied social work, you can still enrol by completing a bridging programme~

According to the 2020 Good Universities Guide, Southern Cross University received five-star ratings for overall student support and social inclusion — the third consecutive year it has achieved this distinction. Its social work programme is ranked among the best in Australia. In the 2019 Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching (QILT) assessment, Southern Cross University’s graduate employment outcomes ranked well above the national average, placing it in the top four in Australia. Graduate satisfaction, student experience of learning support and resources, and average graduate salaries all compare favourably with many metropolitan universities.
