Study Abroad  Graduation Season or a Fresh Start

With graduation season just around the corner, whether you’re currently studying in Australia or about to finish your degree back home, everyone’s thinking aboutwhat master’s programme should I pursue?!

And lately, people based in China who want a “fresh start”, also ask me — after working for a few years and now consideringstudying abroad and migrating to Australia, what programmes would they recommend? Or perhapswanting to switch fields, what programmes are out therethat don’t require a strong prior backgroundthat they could still apply for?

Master of IT

As someone who previously only covered language-intensive humanities fields such as nursing, social work, early childhood education, OT and PT — Nicole here — today I’m giving you a no-fluff breakdown ofIT master’s programmes at Australia’s Group of Eight (Go8) universitiesWhat options are available? In the post-pandemic era, the importance of technology has never been more apparent!Stay ahead of the curve — join me and let’s explore the Master of IT.

Social Work recommendation:[The under-the-radar migration dark horse!] Ticks the box for most people’s combined migration + study needs! October intake — still available!

Early Childhood Education recommendation:One-year programme, no prior background required, skills assessment pathway, language exemption, Subclass 190 migration! Start from scratch and unlock Victoria’s dedicated early childhood education pathway!

Healthcare — OT recommendation:No specialised background required + a high-demand, under-the-radar healthcare field! Every migration pathway is open! Learn more about OT — occupational therapy

IT encompasses manyareas of specialisation, such asBIS (part business, part IT), cybersecurity, network engineering, information systems, software development, computer science, and software engineeringand more. IT is recognised as a field with high employment rates and generally excellent salaries, which is why IT programmes are becoming increasingly popular among international students in Australia.

IT employment outlook .

Weekly wages across multiple IT specialisations significantly exceed the Australian average, with most roles paying above AUD 2,000 per week. Among the most in-demand and fastest-growing roles currently in the market,Business Analysts tend to earn even higher.

The total workforce of software developers is five times the size of data analysts. According to projections from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS),by 2023, demand growth for software developers (13.19% per year) is projected to be slightly higher than that for data analysts (10.08%),though both fall firmly within the strong-growth category.

Today we are focusing onAustralia’s Group of Eight (Go8) universities, and for those thinking of returning to China after graduation, Nicole here has spoken with friends who studied IT and went back. The main challenge for developers isn’t salary or job availability — it’s the widespread 996 work culture.Based on informal surveys of friends and acquaintances, starting salaries in Beijing currently range between 12,000 and 20,000 RMB per month.Salaries grow with experience, and major Chinese cities are home to many large tech companies — put in a few years and you could become a real industry heavyweight.

Key takeaway: IT falls squarely into the “advance-or-retreat migration” category we are focusing on in this edition.

What we mean by“advance”means the option to stay and migrate to Australia after graduation — chasing migration policy updates in the early days without PR, but once PR is in hand, settling into a well-paid, stable Australian “easy-living” lifestyle.”retreat”means returning to China armed with a Go8 degree, joining a major tech company, and embarking on an exciting, well-paid career — a life of good food, real achievements, and never a dull moment.

So let’s get into it — check out which university suits you, including IT master’s programmes that don’t require a related undergraduate background yet still offer a migration pathway.

If you already have a preferred IT specialisation and university in mind and would like more details on the programme and subsequent migration options, feel free to contact me directly!
