Just In! 2023 QS World University Rankings by Subject Released — Australia 4th Globally for Ranked Subjects! USyd / UNSW / Melbourne Place Multiple Subjects in the Top 100!

Last night, QS released the 2023 World University Rankings by Subject! The rankings cover 54 individual subjects and 5 broad subject areas, designed to help students find the world’s leading universities in their chosen field and meet their demand for top-tier disciplines.

Unlike overall university rankings, the QS World University Rankings by Subject lean more heavily towards academic factors, helping students identify the institutions that lead in a particular field. For students, the greatest value of the subject rankings is that they reveal universities that may not rank highly overall yet have hidden standout programmes.

Ranking Highlights

US universities lead in 32 subjects. Harvard University put in the strongest performance, ranking first in 14 subjects — one more than last year. MIT ranked first in 11 subjects, the same as last year.

UK universities took first place in 15 subjects, with the University of Oxford ranking first in 4 subjects, and the University of Cambridge and the Royal College of Art each topping 2 subjects.

Australia is the country with the fourth-highest number of ranked subjects.
