189 has today releasedthe official report for the 13 November invitation round, and by coincidence we have just completed our analysis of the November 189 EOI SkillSelect data up to end-of-month — let’s look at them together.
189 issued 10,000 invitations, and the 491 Family-Sponsored stream issued 300.

The official report confirmed several points; combined with the SkillSelect data
–Accounting, Auditing, Civil Engineer and IT-related occupationsreceived zero invitations this round
–Construction / engineering (non-blue-collar) roles were almost all invited at 85 points — including Civil Engineering Draftsperson / Technician (down from 90 to 85 points), Architect, Landscape Architect, Construction Project Manager (with even lower cut-offs under state sponsorship), Electrical Engineering Draftsperson / Technician, and Engineering Manager
– Cut-off scores for several other common occupations have also been confirmed:Solicitor85 points,Actuary85 points,Multimedia Specialist(the only occupation with any tie to IT) 85 points,Management Consultant85 points
–Blue-collar construction trades continued to be invited uniformly at 65 points — carpenters, tilers, plumbers and the like. TakingCarpenter and Joiner as an example: all 364 candidates on 70 points or above as at end-October were cleared, and the 65-point pool dropped from 368 to 76 by end-November (down 292). Setting aside new 65-point lodgements from the last two weeks of November, this round may have issued around 656 invitations to the Carpenter occupation group. After this clear-out, only 76 candidates on 65 points remain in the pool at end-November, with fewer than 20 at every other score band…
–Social Worker — minimum 75 points to receive an invitation. It is confirmed that all 350+ candidates on 80 points or above as at end-October were cleared, and the Social Worker 75-point backlog dropped from 329 to 258 by end-November (down 71).Social Workers may have received around 420 invitations this round (71 + 350)
–The entire Nursing category (not just NEC) — minimum 75 points. All 1,430+ candidates on 80 points or above as at end-October were cleared, and the 75-point pool dropped from 3,200 to 2,200 by end-November (down 1,000). Setting aside new 75-point lodgements from the last two weeks of November,Nursing may have received around 2,430 invitations this round (1,000 + 1,430)
–Secondary School Teacher — minimum 75 points. All 387+ candidates on 80 points or above as at end-October were cleared, and the Secondary Teacher 75-point backlog dropped from 440 to 368 by end-November (down 72). Secondary Teachers cannot quickly “refill” the high-score bands,so at least 460 invitations were likely issued this round (72 + 387)
–Early Childhood Teacher — invited at 85 points.Around 50 candidates sat on 90 points or above as at end-October, and the 85-point pool dropped from 691 to 559 by end-November (down 132). Setting aside new 85-point lodgements from the last two weeks of November,Early Childhood Teachers may have received fewer than 200 invitations this round (50 + 132). By end-November the 80-point pool had reached 1,468 (up around 120 from October)
– Civil Engineers received zero invitations for the second round running.Candidates may consider undertaking a Draftsperson or Technician skills assessment instead. The 60 candidates on 90 points or above for Draftsperson / Technician were entirely cleared, and the 85-point pool dropped from 305 to 173 by end-November (down 132),so this round issued around 200 invitations (132 + 60).
These occupations — for which we have pulled specific data — alone may account for more than 40% of this round’s total invitations.
The chart below shows our projection — based on SkillSelect data — of how many invitations each common occupation group received in this November round(for reference only; accuracy is not guaranteed)
State Sponsorship ————————

States using their quotas relatively quickly:Canberra, NSW, and NT 190
States that have issued some pre-invitations and whose real usage exceeds what the figures show:Victoria, Tasmania and WA
States with few pre-invitations and genuinely low usage:Queensland, NT 491, and South Australia
Four days into December:
Victoria and South Australia have both issued invitations — see details here:State Sponsorship Opens! SA Runs Its First Round, Victoria Invites Both Offshore and Onshore — Non-Priority Occupations Included! NSW Has Already Used 25% of Its 190 Quota!
Canberra and WA have also confirmed invitations in December, and Tasmania issues rounds every week;
NSW will not issue pre-invitations in December, and Queensland most likely will not either — even if it does, volumes will be small. NT’s onshore stream is processed on a rolling basis.
