$1500 Rental Subsidy! How to Apply Inside! To Ease International Students’ Rental Pressure, the State Government Steps In and Hands Out Cash Directly!

Western Australia offers eligible full-time international students a $1500 rental subsidy!

Western Australia is arguably the most genuinely supportive state government for international students this financial year. To help returning students cope with rents that have risen to ridiculous levels, the WA state government has stepped in once again and is handing out cash directly!

First, the question everyone cares about most: exactly how much is paid out?

Students who are eligible and whose application is successful will receive a one-off cash subsidy of AUD $1500, paid straight into the bank account you nominate.

Payments are made in the order applications are submitted, provided the documents you submit are complete enough.

Which international students are eligible?

To apply for this $1500 rental subsidy, you must meet the following:

  • be an international student whose course is registered on CRICOS at a registered education institution in WA (a WA local university, TAFE International WA or a private registered training organisation, an English language (ELICOS) provider, or a primary or secondary school);

  • at the time of applying, the applicant must be studying full-time within WA;

  • the applicant’s course commenced on or after 26 October 2022; and

  • the applicant is enrolled in a course of at least 1 year (2 semesters); and

  • the applicant had not studied within WA on or before 25 October 2022.

Note: the following international students are NOT eligible to apply for this subsidy:

  • if you have already applied for and received the ISAS subsidy in the first or second round;

  • if you are not studying full-time;

  • if you are enrolled in a course of less than 1 year (2 semesters);

  • if you studied within WA on or before 25 October 2022;
