Who QLD considers suitable applicants:
Established or growth-stagebusiness owners / entrepreneurs whoare prepared tocommercialise or scale innovative products or services in Queensland,with a minimum investment threshold of AUD 1 million.
Applicants must demonstrate the following four points:
Point 1: Commitment to Queensland and operational readiness for a promising entrepreneurial venture
Point 2:Entrepreneurial success in commercialising or scaling innovative products or services
Point 3: Evidence of funds already spent on business establishment, feasibility studies, consulting services, market research, licence applications and/or regulatory approvals
Point 4: Commitment to entrepreneurship in Queensland and readiness to operate on the ground
How to demonstrate “commitment to entrepreneurship in QLD and operational readiness”:
Evidence may include, but is not limited to:
– Employment contracts signed with Queensland-based employees
– Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) or Joint Venture (JV) agreements signed with Queensland partners
– Cooperation agreements signed with Queensland-based suppliers, distributors or customers
– Valid evidence of participation in QLD government-backed startup incubators, accelerator programs or innovation hubs (for example, the aQtivate program)
– Evidence of having secured no less than AUD 1 million in funding, including own funds, venture capital, institutional investment or government grants
– Evidence of the capacity to invest no less than AUD 1 million in Queensland within two years of visa grant
– Evidence of a registered office address in Queensland
How to demonstrate “entrepreneurial success and commercialisation potential”:
Evidence may include, but is not limited to:
– Evidence of business growth, including annual operating revenue, market expansion and/or sustained profitability
– Commercial partnerships supporting expansion into Queensland (such as MoU or JV agreements) and/or supply-chain contracts
– Evidence of funding received from Queensland government innovation grants, venture capital firms, angel investors, or Queensland-based institutions
– Evidence of industry recognition and market validation

Innovation Investor Stream
Who QLD considers suitable applicants:
Investors actively engaged in innovation investment who havea proven investment track record leading breakthrough projects,and are prepared toinvest at least AUD 5 million in Queensland’s innovation ecosystemfor two or more consecutive years。
Proposed investment structures or vehicles include:
– Private equity
– Venture capital
– R&D investment
– Asset management
– Co-investment (for example, projects associated with Queensland Investment Corporation)
Applicants must demonstrate the following three points:
Point 1: A proven investment track record of consistently and actively supporting successful innovation projects
Point 2:Point 2: Evidence that, following visa grant, the applicant is able to invest at least AUD 5 million and sustain the investment for no less than two years
Point 3:A robust, well-developed investment deployment plan, setting out how, after visa grant, the applicant will maximise investment returns and drive the growth of Queensland’s innovation ecosystem
How to demonstrate the three points above:
Evidence may include, but is not limited to:
– A documented record of innovation-investment projects, covering private equity, venture capital, R&D, co-investment and/or asset management, particularly those tied tobreakthrough projects in high-growth industries — applicants whose investments fall withintier-one or tier-two industry sectorswill be given priority consideration
– A record of successful investment exits or returns — such as initial public offerings (IPOs), acquisitions, or funding rounds — where those investments have contributed to the economic growth of innovative enterprises
– Evidence of active involvement in publicly listed companies,demonstrating practical engagement, including but not limited to equity holdings, directorships, or senior leadership roles, used to support startups, growth-stage businesses or high-growth innovation projects
– Third-party endorsement documents, such as letters of recommendation from innovation investment institutions, venture capitalists, government-backed funds, or well-known co-investment partners

Who QLD considers suitable applicants:
– Researchers who have received Australia’s highest-tier national research funding, or equivalent-level research funding from other countries, and can demonstrate that they sit at thetop international tier;
– And/or hold a PhD and demonstrate significantacademic influence or thought leadership in their research field。
Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the following criteria:
The applicant must be aglobally high-calibre researcher with a strong standing for their career stage, h-indexable to make asignificant contribution to the international reputation of Queensland’s research sector, and must also meet one of the following two conditions:
– Condition 1: Has secureda formal employment position at a Queensland university;
– Condition 2: Has securedconfirmed research funding support(via a research grant or collaboration arrangement), to undertakea research exchange or residency program of at least two years at a Queensland research institution。
How to demonstrate a “relevant professional research track record”:
– Evidence of personal research career development, for example:
– A record of successfully attracting Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students;
– Experience initiating and leading research projects across industry, academia or government.
How to demonstrate a “confirmed employment position at a Queensland university”:
– A formal letter of support issued by the Queensland university, on official letterhead and signed by an authorised representative — for example, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) or equivalent;
– A copy of the executed employment contract from the Queensland university, which must include the following information:
– Position title
– Duties and responsibilities
– Salary level
– Place of work
– Term of employment
– Nature of employment
– Formal signatures from both parties
How to demonstrate a “confirmed research-funded residency project”:
– The research project proposal together with the executed research-funding agreement;
– Examples of eligible research funding include, but are not limited to:
– Australian Research Council (ARC) collaborative research grants;
– Cooperative Research Centres (CRC) program projects;
– Summary agreements or formal contracts evidencing the collaboration;
– Research funding and grants from the Queensland Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation;
– Evidence of funding under the Australian Academy of Science Global Talent attraction program.
