Both States Issue New Invitations! “The Big Three” Remain Victoria’s Favourites While Canberra Casts a Wide Net Across Occupations!

On Thursday 12 October, both Victoria and Canberra issued invitations. The two states shared several similarities this round:

– Less than a month since the last round

Victoria only issued its first round on the 25th of last month, while Canberra’s previous round was on the 15th.

– The focus of invitations differed from the previous round

Victoria primarily invited “the Big Three” occupations this round. From our client data, Canberra’s invitations were all for the subclass 491

– The number of invitations appears to be fewer than last round

Victoria saw significantly fewer invitations, with very little data available online. We are still waiting for Canberra to publish its official invitation summary.

Victoria 12 October Round — ROI Pre-Invitations

Invitation data collected up to the afternoon of the issue date is as follows:

In the previous round, Victoria issued many invitations for ICT and engineering roles, mostly to offshore applicants. Education and healthcare occupations are also a priority for Victoria this financial year. Looking at both rounds together, Victoria’s invitation strategy remains quite clear. Moreover, the invitation scores for the Big Three occupations tend to be lower. A key reason is that these occupations were prioritised by Victoria, other states, or under the 189 pathway in the previous financial year, so there was not a significant backlog of high-scoring applicants.

One of our early childhood education clients who received an invitation received the ROI pre-invitation in the morning, submitted the formal application at 2 pm, and received the official nomination just 6 minutes later. This demonstrates that the state government does not have a large case backlog — rather, insufficient quota allocation has significantly limited the number of invitations issued. Many applicants with similar scores and circumstances did not receive an invitation.

The early childhood education express is still running!

This round also reassured early childhood education and other Big Three professions — Victoria’s favouritism is still going strong! If you have already completed 3 years of tertiary study in Australia (in any discipline), completing a one-year Graduate Diploma in Early Childhood Education can exempt you from language requirements for your skills assessment

If you previously completed a 2 or 2.5-year programme, there are complementary courses available as well

Canberra 12 October Round — Matrix Invitations

Originally scheduled for 16 October, the new round was brought forward to the 12th.So far, only subclass 491 invitations have been observed. The scale and number of invitations did not match the previous round, but we need to wait for official data to confirm.
Canberra does not appear to have focused on just a few occupations this round. Among our clients who received invitations, there were applicants in engineering, services, ICT, and more.

Invitation data summary:

This year, let’s keep trying our best and stay positive while awaiting invitations.
After all, some invitations are better than none, right?
Speaking of no invitations — NSW, where is your first 190 round???
