I. Victoria Issues Yet Another Round — Reminiscent of Last Financial Year?
Victoria, which issued invitations for three key occupations last week, suddenly released another round of ROI invitations this week. Marketing, design, finance, accounting, engineering and various ICT occupations all received invitations this round, and overseas and onshore invitations were fairly balanced, Below are the key invitation data we have collected:
Occupation: This round saw invitations for most common occupations including accounting, finance, marketing, design and law — none in Victoria’s priority sectors this financial year. Victoria had indicated non-priority occupations would also have a chance, and we appreciate them following through
Scores: Most invitation scores fell in the 80–85 range. Accounting would be higher. These scores are acceptable, and many applicants meet this threshold
Onshore/Overseas: No particular bias — various occupations saw both offshore and onshore invitations
Bonus points: This round did see many applicants with a skilled partner (four 6s in English + skills assessment). There were cases where single applicants with higher scores missed out, while some single applicants did receive invitations. It appears to be a trend, not absolute

Victoria has now issued three rounds: moderate first, small second (all shortage occupations), and large third. Congratulations to everyone invited — this round feels like a flashback to 2022–23. At this rate, Victoria appears headed for an early close.

Many assumed fewer quotas meant no invitations, but state governments have not played by the book. This year’s opportunities arrive unexpectedly — lodge early and get in the pool!

II. WA Official Report: High Scores for Popular Occupations, Priority Roles for Interstate/Overseas
WA also took us back to 2022–23. WA issued invitations last week and released the official report this week, providing a clear picture. The volume, occupations and applicant locations all had surprises.
This was WA’s second round, with 2,001 Subclass 190 and 500 Subclass 491 invitations. A total of 2,501 invitations were issued. Of these, General Stream Schedule 2 issued 961 Subclass 190 (38.4%) and 240 Subclass 491 (9%). The entire General Stream Schedule 2 accounted for 48% of total invitations.

Distribution across occupations in General Stream Schedule 2 followed a clear pattern:
For popular non-priority occupations, all invitees had high scores and were already in WA — typical examples being accounting and ICT

For the four priority sectors (construction, health & social services, education & training, hospitality), overseas and interstate applicants received invitations. Scores were not uniformly high — below are common hospitality occupations; construction scores were generally lower.

The 2,988 pre-invitations across two rounds cannot be directly compared to the 2,350 quota, as acceptance rates must be considered. Many applicants will be held up by the job offer requirement. However, WA’s quota reserves may no longer have surplus.Seize this year’s opportunities. Contact us to lodge your WA state nomination!

III. NSW Finally Issues First Subclass 190 Round — Shortage Occupations, Overseas Focus?
This week we finally received NSW invitations. Since NSW does not release official reports, we can only draw conclusions from observed data. The long-awaited first round was not a deluge. The numbers did not appear surprising. Secondly, from invitations shared, they were consistently shortage occupations. Among confirmed invitations, all were overseas applicants.
See the invitation summary:
Subsequently, someone posted NSW government’s response — over 80,000 EOIs selected NSW, making invitation chances extremely low. We can only hope the next round brings more opportunities.

IV. Canberra Previous Round: All Occupations, Low Scores for Niche Fields?
The official report confirmed 168 invitations, all Subclass 491: 74 to onshore general stream, 85 to overseas applicants, 7 to small business. Minimum score: 80 points.

This round still shows no clear occupational preference from Canberra
-Occupation popularity is directly linked to invitation scores. Accounting/engineering/ICT go without saying. Occupations like contract administrators, restaurant/cafe managers and Finance Managers — with large applicant pools — all require high scores in Canberra state nomination. Many other occupations can be invited at 65 points or lower
This round still saw more overseas than onshore invitations. This may be because all were Subclass 491 — overseas applicants target 491, onshore aim for 190. The government has indicated fewer overseas invitations in subsequent rounds.

As of 13 October, Canberra state nomination has 224 Subclass 190 and 310 Subclass 491 places remaining. The next round will issue both Subclass 190 and 491, aiming to spread invitations across the second half of the financial year.
