Once the allocation was confirmed at the start of the financial year, the Northern Territory quickly closed state nomination applications, announcing that it would first process the backlog of pre-invited applications. New Subclass 491 applications were to reopen later in the 2023-24 financial year, but Subclass 190 was unlikely to reopen due to insufficient allocation.
Today, 23 October, the Northern Territory unexpectedly announced the reopening of new Subclass 491 state nomination applications for this financial year. Due to limited allocation (400 places in total for Subclass 491, with some already used), the eligibility thresholds for all three main streams have been raised.
I. Onshore Graduate Stream
Only applicants holding a Subclass 485 visa expiring before 1 July 2024 will be considered
If your Subclass 485 expires after that date, or you are currently applying for a 485, it is recommended to consider applying in the next financial year
II. Onshore Worker Stream
Applicants without at least 6 months of local work experience in their nominated occupation will not be considered, unless currently working in a critical sector such as health, aged and disabled care, education and childcare, or hospitality
While the allocation is limited, fewer people may be aware of this opportunity, meaning less competition. Contact us for a free assessment and give it a try — you might be pleasantly surprised!
