Today we received the latest FOI release. As at 30 June 2023 — the end of the 2022–23 financial year — the Subclass 189 application backlog stood at 26,781.
Between 1 December 2022 and 30 June 2023, 17,702 applications were finalised over these seven months, an average of 2,528 finalised each month.
The total Subclass 189 grant quota for the previous financial year was 32,100, a small portion of which had to go to the NZ stream and a very small portion to the HK stream.
The Subclass 189 grant quota for the 2023–24 financial year is 30,375 — which looks like a reduction, but because the NZ stream no longer takes up any of the quota and only 200 places go to the HK stream, the Subclass 189 points-based system actually has 30,175 places available this financial year.
From the very first week of this financial year,
grants have been flowing normally for Subclass 189, 491 and 190
And the grants keep coming this week!
Here is our latest round-up
Subclass 190 granted, lodged in late 2022; nominated occupation: Chef
Two Subclass 190 grants — both including a partner and both lodged in late 2022
More Subclass 190 grants
Subclass 491 granted — processing has now reached applications lodged in March/April 2023
For more Subclass 491 grant stories, see: From invitation to grant in about six months! Not only do 50–70 points stand a chance of an invitation for the Subclass 491 — processing has also sped up!
Subclass 489 granted — one of the final batch of Subclass 489 visas from late 2019, with accounting as the nominated occupation. The client originally lodged a DIY application, but after waiting far too long came to us for help; following repeated follow-ups they received a request for further information in February this year, and the visa was finally granted this week!
Subclass 887 granted — lodged in late 2022
Subclass 186 (Direct Entry) employer-sponsored visa granted, with accounting as the nominated occupation — the client worked hard to build up three years of work experience and went straight for PR without competing on points!
A now-rarer case: a Subclass 482 short-term occupation transitioning directly to the Subclass 186 TRT stream (PR), with the nominated occupation being Massage Therapist; the processing wait was just one month
Currently, transitioning a Subclass 482 short-term occupation directly to the Subclass 186 requires meeting the conditions shown below
After that, the new policy allowing all short-term occupations to transition directly to the Subclass 186 is expected to take effect by the end of 2023
