V.Weekly Summary: Visa Grants, Invitations, Skills Assessments and Citizenship Updates

1. Queensland will meet ICT/engineering/nurses in the first round, and 200 in each subsequent round

Queensland, which had previously promised to issue first-round invitations by the end of September, also postponed its invitations for a week and issued first-round invitations this Thursday night. The invitation data is as shown below. The data is mainly collected from outside and is for reference only.

What this round of eyes can see:
-Computer and engineering majors are more common
-The score should be between 90-100 points
– I believe there will be more nursing/medical/three high-demand occupations
Our Brisbane office manager SIMON WU learned from the state government on Thursday afternoon thatThe number in the first round and each subsequent round remains around 200.Combined with the state government’s statementThey have received 14,000 EOI applications,This means:
– Queensland plans to try its best toInvitations are extended to the last few months of the financial year and are distributed in the last week of each month.
-At least the next few rounds of invitations will be roughly similar to the first round:
*The score will be higher
*Occupation limited
*Tricky conditions (such as those with long work experience)
*With the same conditions, scores and occupations, most people will not be invited
*Priority is given to “three popular migration fields” occupations in the state
Next few rounds of invitationswill be based on the applicant’s conditions,Properly balance different careers, we will also give priority to inviting applicants who have worked in Queensland for a long time and have stable residence, and try to balance domestic and overseas applications.
Queensland has shown a lot of sincerity this year by lowering the requirements. However, the quota allocated by the federal government is not large, and the number of invitations is limited. The state government also tries to achieve a balance. If you want to know more about Queensland state nomination, you can add the service team below

2. The announced new migration strategy has been postponed…
I was expecting some big news on migration reform this week, but the minister’s press conference was held. But the promised new migration strategy has been postponed and announced later this year. There are two months left in 2023, can we still delay…
The theme of the press conference of the two ministers isCrack down on the use of student visas/refugee visas to stay and work in Australia for a long period of time. The new policy was introduced in the form of a response to the Nixon report at the beginning of the year. On Wednesday afternoon, a detailed response to the recommendations in the report was announced. Most of them were agree or agree in principle, that is, either there is a relatively clear implementation direction, or it will be implemented in the future.
Share some suggestions that are more relevant to applicants
1. There will be a new appeals body (more details were given on Thursday)
Commitment to establish a more efficient appeals review body that safeguards the interests of the Australian community
2. There will be new alternative visas to better introduce low-skilled jobs
Committed to building a new migration system, has widely consulted on the recommendations in the reform report released in April, and plans to release the final version of the Migration Strategy later this year
Thinking about it from another perspective, there are only two months left this year. In mid-December, the government is basically on holiday, so it’s not far away.

3. ICT/construction engineering/technician categories, Australia will be short of them in 2023
This week, relevant Australian government departments updated the SPL (skill priority list) and released the current labor market employment and skills report.
SPL covers more than 900 occupations. Every year, the government reviews whether all occupations are in shortage or not in shortage throughout Australia or in each state. It may be a better reference for the occupations and industries invited by the state.
LikeElderly care, nurses, various caregivers, ICT majors and construction engineering majors are now in short supply in every state in Australia.. This year’s SPL has36% have skill shortage, a year-on-year increase of 5%,50% of skilled workers are in short supply.

Australia’s top 20 jobs
These positions areHuge employment and continuing shortagesSituation
The first one isAged or Disabled Carer, 227,500 people are employed in 2021, but the shortage of people has never stopped
LikeConstruction project manager, marketing specialist, chef, software engineer, project architectall belong to these top 20,New entrants to the top 20 in 2023 include sales and marketing managers, waiters and lawyers

Australia’s 20 most in-demand jobs
Medical, nursing and social work teachers are all on the list. An extra thing to mention isAdvertising/PR/Sales Manager, Human Resources, Advertising and Marketing Specialist, Chef, Civil Engineering, Lawyer, Retail ManagerThese are all positions in high demand now.

When choosing a place to settle in Australia, everyone will consider whether it is easy to find a job. The 2023 report showsThe employment growth rates in each state are similar in the 5-year period, between 5-6%. In the 10-year period, most are around 15%.In terms of speed, Victoria and Canberra are the fastest growing. But because Victoria itself has a large base, Victoria is the strongest in terms of the number of job increases.

4. Well-known think tanks are concerned about the difficulty for graduates studying abroad to find jobs and transfer to PR, and suggest tightening 485?
The Grattan Institute, a well-known Australian think tank, announced this week the results of a survey on overseas graduates’ job search and permanent residence, and also gave a number of suggestions.
The report points out that the problems faced by graduates studying abroad include:
1. The number of overseas graduates holding 485 will increase.
2. Graduates studying abroad lag behind local graduates in terms of income level, proportion of full-time jobs, and job skills. The median income of overseas graduates in 2021 is 53,300 AUDs, lower than the income of locals aged 20-29 with at least a bachelor’s degree (64,400 AUDs)
3、Holding a temporary visa (485) is one of the main reasons why employers are reluctant to hire overseas graduates.Because they are not sure whether they can stay for a long time in the future, the success rate is too high if they are sponsored by the employer, and they are not familiar with 485 and can work full-time. At the same time, there is also the problem that the skills and level of the visa holders are not up to standard.
4、The cycle for overseas graduates to transfer to PR is getting longer and longer, and more people need to transfer back to their study permit after their 485 expires.

Therefore the agency recommends
Cancel the policy that you can now obtain a visa extension based on your major and academic level
485 extension requires high salary. Only those who can find a full-time job and have an annual income of more than 70,000 can get a 2-year extension.
-You cannot apply for 485 if you are over 35 years old
-Increase the language requirements for applying for 485
Allows employers to sponsor 485 visa holders in all positions to apply for TSS, the requirement is that the annual salary exceeds 70,000
– Allows 485 visa holders whose employers can sponsor all positions to apply for 186 employer-sponsored permanent residence. The requirement is that the annual salary exceeds 85,000
– Merge 189/491/494 into a unified common skilled immigrant visa category

The migration reforms that this think tank has long proposed are relatively idealistic, 485 has just been significantly relaxed, and the government is now busy with various reforms such as employer guarantees and study permits. It should not return to 485 in the short term.In addition, as the first step for visa for overseas graduates, the above suggestions are too high and even reach the level of skilled immigrants. Most suggestions should have a low probability of being adopted.
