Studied business? There’s more than just accounting — and more than just Subclass 189
● Many students have always assumed that if you study business, accounting is the only migration occupation you can choose. That assumption is completely wrong. The root cause of this misconception is that many people’s understanding of Australian migration is still stuck at the level of the Subclass 189 Skilled Independent visa.
● However, the sudden onset of the COVID-19 pandemic changed every aspect of our lives, and it also changed Australia’s migration landscape. The Subclass 189 Skilled Independent visa went from being the most sought-after pathway to now being a dead end. Quite a few business students, after seeing the Subclass 189 invitation data over the past two years, felt migration was hopeless and chose to return home instead.Little do they know that state-nominated Subclass 190/491 and employer sponsorship have clearly become the mainstream migration pathways of the moment.
This article will look at whichlesser-known occupationsstudents with a business background can also use to migrate.

New ideas beyond the obvious
— so many options to choose from
●
The above are just the more common migration occupations among many options. There are also many fields of study you wouldn’t expect that can lead to migration — for those of you with relevant work experience or qualifications, there’s no need to fight your way across the single-plank bridge that is accounting. Nor should you limit your outlook to the single option of the Subclass 189 Skilled Independent visa.
These occupations listed abovemostly appear on the occupation lists for state nomination 190/491 in various states, as well as for regional employer sponsorship 494.This is especially the case inregional areas where there’s no need to compete on points— once local state nomination requirements are met, a score of around 65 points is generally enough to receive an invitation.
Students who enjoy businesscould also consider a small regional business, and those with relevant work experience could also consider regional employer sponsorship via Subclass 494.
If you’re interested in any of these occupations, or have questions about skills assessments, feel free to get in touch with me for a further assessment at any time.
