Transition Seamlessly to State Nomination or Employer Sponsorship for PR! Hundreds of Occupations — Accounting, Engineering, IT, Marketing and More — Full-Time Work, No Skills Assessment Required!

Over the past two years, the ongoing slump in the skilled migration landscape has left more and more skilled migration applicants with no choice but toextend their visas onshore in Australiato buy more time while waiting for an invitation. Others have beenbuilding up more work experienceto apply for an employer-sponsored visa as an indirect route to PR. While this stretches out the migration journey, it is honestly the most effective approach in the current environment — and even if you can’t get there in one step, it’s a matter ofmoving forward steadily, one step at a time.

The importance of migration to Australia’s growth speaks for itself. The Prime Minister, the Minister for Home Affairs, and state premiers have all repeatedly highlighted encouraging signs of a gradual recovery in migration numbers since the start of this financial year. For many people, what they need most is simply more time. Today, we want to talk about a visa that can help you buy more time while simultaneously building up your Subclass 482 employer-sponsored work experience —the perfect bridging visa407 training visa. And of course, it won’t stop you from waiting for state nomination or even Subclass 189 either.

Subclass 407 visa — the basics

Let’s start with what the Subclass 407 visa actually is. The 407 is a training visa —a temporary visa with a validity of up to two years. It was designed to allow applicants to undertake workplace-based training in Australia to enhance their professional skills.

The Subclass 407 visa has many advantages

01

Wide occupation coverage:Like traditional employer-sponsored visas, the 407 does have its own occupation list, and only occupations on that list are eligible. However, the 407 list is lengthy and comprehensive — it covers hundreds of occupations, and virtually any field you can think of qualifies, including accounting, engineering, IT, healthcare, trades, and more.

02

Paid on-the-job training:Training is conducted on the job, so it is both full-time and paid. This makes it a far superior option compared to renewing on a student visa, a Subclass 408 Temporary Activity visa, or a visitor visa.

03

No mandatory skills assessment:No skills assessment is required for any occupation.

04

Secondary applicants welcome:If your spouse and children are in Australia, you can include them as secondary applicants.

05

Extended validity:The visa is valid for up to two years — in our experience, all applications have received the full two years — which is more than enough time to either wait for a migration invitation or build up your Subclass 482 work experience.

06

Work experience counts towards a Subclass 482 employer-sponsored visa:In the unlikely event that the skilled migration landscape continues to stagnate, you can use your work experience gained on the 407 to apply for a Subclass 482, then accumulate the required experience before applying for a Subclass 186 to obtain PR.

07

Low cost:Unlike the Subclass 482 or 186, which can attract levies and visa application charges running into the thousands or even tens of thousands of Australian dollars, the Subclass 407’s third-party costs are just over AUD 1,000.Genuinely excellent value.

08

No special occupation restrictions:Unlike the Subclass 482 employer-sponsored visa, which imposes turnover, headcount, and salary restrictions on certain industries, the Subclass 407 visa has none of these restrictions.

There are many more advantages to the Subclass 407, but rather than list them all here, let’s move on tothe basic requirements for applying for the Subclass 407.

– Apply for and receive an approved nomination: the nominated occupation must appear on the Subclass 407 occupation list;

a sound training plan; the nominated position must be genuine and reasonable;and the financial capacity to provide sponsorship

Are you ready to get started?

If I already have a relevant job, can I start preparing now?

First, although the Subclass 407 is only a training visa valid for up to two years, the application process is almost identical to that of the traditional employer-sponsored Subclass 482.Sponsorship application, nomination application, and visa application — none of these steps can be skipped, and there is the additional, fairly time-consuming step of drafting a training plan. We therefore recommend assessing your situation early and making any necessary adjustments as soon as possible.

Second, although the business size threshold is lower than for the Subclass 482, that does not mean there are no requirements at all.I would generally recommend that applicants or employers contact us early for a preliminary eligibility assessment.I have encountered far too many clients who come to me excited that their employer is willing to sponsor them for a Subclass 407 — urgently, because their current visa is about to expire. But when we look at the employer’s financial statements and staff list, we find poor financial health and no qualified mentor to provide the required training.Lodging anyway will only result in a refusal, leaving them with no choice but to apply for an alternative visa.

While the Subclass 407 does not offer a direct pathway to PR (unlike the Subclass 482-to-186 route), it connects seamlessly with a wide range of migration pathways and does not prevent you from continuing to wait for an invitation or accumulate points.
