Great news may be on the way for offshore applicants — invitations issued just today, with waits under three months! Here’s how GTI has changed this financial year…

Australia’s GTI Global Talent programme

will shift its focus to applicants outside Australia

Last week, Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil told media thatthe incoming Labor government has committed to prioritising approximately 60,000 offshore skilled migration applications to address labour shortages across Australian industries. She also noted genuine doubt over whether the previous government’s newly created GTI Global Talent visa was actually attracting talent from around the world — given that 77% of grants in the last financial year went to applicants already in Australia, this financial year GTI will prioritise offshore applicants to demonstrate a genuinely global focus.

Meanwhile, a new invitation code was issued to an offshore applicant today. Those waiting offshore need not be too concerned. For applicants already in Australia, the GTI visa is just one migration pathway — if the opportunity arises, other pathways are also worth exploring.

The halving of this financial year’s GTI migration quota is now confirmed, but the GTI programme team has also stated that case processing standards will not be relaxed regardless of the quota size,we continue to have multiple outstanding offshore applicants successfully land permanent residency through GTI. If you fit one of the following three profiles, GTI remains a highly cost-effective, shorter-wait, one-step pathway to a permanent visa.
