Australian Graduate Employment at Its Strongest in Years

According to The Australian, Australian university graduates are experiencing the strongest job market since 2009!Post-pandemic skills shortages have fuelled enormous employer demand for graduates. In 2022, the full-time employment rate for domestic Australian university graduates surged to 78.5%, up nearly 10% from 2021.

Graduate salaries have also risen — the median was AUD $65,000 in 2021, climbing to AUD $68,000 in 2022.

The latest data released by Federal Education Minister Jason Clare also found that student satisfaction with undergraduate programmes — which declined when COVID forced classes online — has continued to fall.

In 2022, undergraduate course satisfaction stood at 77.4%, down from 77.9% in 2021.

Satisfaction rates varied significantly across fields of study. Agriculture and Environmental Studies (88.3%) and Social Work (83.1%) recorded the highest undergraduate satisfaction; Creative Arts (71.8%) and Engineering (71.9%) were the lowest.

International students typically see weaker employment outcomes than domestic students, but they too are now benefiting from the stronger job market — their full-time employment rate jumped from 43% in 2021 to 57.7% in 2022.

Federal Education Minister Clare said the results demonstrate the value of higher education and “highlight the importance of expanding higher education access for more Australians”.

Universities Australia CEO Catriona Jackson said that more than half of the 1 million jobs expected to be created over the next five years will require a university degree.

Australia Seeks Online-Study Qualification Exemption

for Chinese International Students

Australia’s Department of Education is in discussions with Chinese authorities regarding a series of exemptions for online-study qualification recognition, seeking relief for international students affected by this issue. Before international borders closed in 2020, Chinese students made up more than one-third of students studying online from Australia. Students have now been encouraged to return to Australia for in-person study as soon as possible. Until there is official confirmation, we recommend returning to Australia for on-campus classes promptly.

AI & ChatGPT Are Everywhere

But Don’t Rely on Them to Write Your Assignments

Most Australian universities have explicitly banned AI-based cheating — please be aware and do not take shortcuts.

When considering studying in Australia, ChatGPT can be useful for answering basic questions. However, it only provides very general information. For a personalised plan or help with complex matters — especially visa-related questions — speak to our professional education consultants for an assessment.

The Data Confirms: Australia Is the Top Destination

for Chinese International Students!

A recent analysis by Chinese marketing analytics firm Sinorbis found, based on search data, that since China announced its border reopening, student interest in studying abroad has surged significantly, with Australia, the United Kingdom, and Canada the primary destinations.Searches for Australia increased by 158% — the highest of the three countries. Meanwhile, searches for the United States fell 16%, reflecting lingering safety concerns. Students in Australia have the right to work legally while studying, and can apply for a graduate work visa after graduation, making it an ideal pathway for gaining international work experience and pursuing Australian migration.

There are even advantages for students who plan to return to China after graduation — in 2022, the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Human Resources and Social Security began offering Shanghai household registration (hukou) to Chinese graduates from the world’s top 50 universities working full-time in the city.Graduates from institutions ranked 51–100 can apply for hukou after six months of contributing to the social insurance system.
