Which Business and Arts Occupations Stand Out in Australian Migration This Financial Year? Score 190 with 70 Points — Onshore and Offshore Both Have a Chance!

Many people study in Australia, and after a couple of years they fall in love with the Australian lifestyle and want to stay — only to find that their degree is not one of those “popular migration fields” they always hear about. So they look into how to migrate, and the answer they often get is: go back and study a “migration-friendly” field. Admittedly, for some people going back to study early childhood education or social work — those classic “golden ticket” migration fields — might be the fastest route.

But you might not need to!

Several business and arts fields commonly studied by Chinese international students, combined with your work experience, can be a solid path to migration — especially given this financial year’s invitation trends — and it’s not as complicated as you might think.

The four key steps in Australia’s points-tested skilled migration
1. Obtain a relevant skills assessment
2. IELTS 6 in each band (or equivalent PTE)
3. EOI score of at least 65 points
4. Receive Subclass 190 / Subclass 491 state nomination / Subclass 189
Whether you’ve studied in Australia or are applying entirely from overseas, these four steps are your pathway to PR. Today, we’re introducing some niche occupation categories that offer strong migration pathways right nowniche migration-eligible fields — no sky-high scores required, and overseas applicants have opportunities too!

04

Contract Administrator

The next occupation is Contract Administrator. Contract Administrators prepare, interpret, maintain, review, and negotiate contract variations on behalf of their organisation. This is a very common role in China — and most people don’t realise it is also a migration-eligible occupation in Australia.

Migrating via Contract Administrator still follows these steps:

1. Complete the Contract Administrator skills assessment:

Educational requirements are slightly lower than other occupations — a diploma or above is sufficient.

Highly related fields include law, business, project management, construction management/construction economics, quantity surveying, civil engineering, and architecture-related disciplines (including contract management). Eligible employer categories include (but are not limited to): industrial or commercial companies, government agencies, construction firms, engineering and design companies, and consultancies.

Work experience requirements for the Contract Administrator skills assessment:

With a related qualification: 1 year of relevant work experience within the past five years is sufficient.

With an unrelated qualification: 2 years of relevant work experience within the past five years is required.

2. While preparing your skills assessment, aim for at least IELTS 6 in each band — higher if possible.

3. Build your points score through work experience, qualifications, and age — at least 60 points to lodge for Subclass 190; 50 points for Subclass 491

4. Once you meet state nomination criteria, you can lodge your application. South Australia and the ACT (Canberra) both list Contract Administrator as a nominated occupation.

05

Information and Organisation Professionals

Finally, here is a truly niche occupation — Information and Organisation Professionals.

1. How to obtain your Information and Organisation Professionals skills assessment:

This occupation requires at least a bachelor’s degree. If you currently work in procurement, risk management, or intellectual property at a company, there is a strong chance you can obtain a successful skills assessment. Specific requirements:

If your qualification is highly related (e.g. business administration, management, or information management): 1 year of relevant work experience within the past five years is sufficient.

Not highly related, but with a related diploma, advanced diploma, associate degree, or postgraduate qualification: at least 2 years of post-degree relevant work experience within the past five years.

Not highly related and no other related qualification: at least 3 years of post-degree relevant work experience within the past five years.

2. While preparing your skills assessment, aim for at least IELTS 6 in each band — higher if possible.

4. This occupation currently qualifies for NSW and Victoria Subclass 190 state nomination. NSW has been consistently inviting at EOI 75 points.

That wraps up today’s overview. This year is genuinely a great time for many previously niche, lower-profile fields to achieve migration success — invitation scores are not high, and both onshore and offshore applicants have opportunities. Other eligible occupations include journalist, private tutor, and university lecturer, among others.

If your occupation falls into any of these categories, get in touch — we can help you work through the relevant assessment! The outlook across the three major states is positive right now, and Queensland is expected to open up nominations soon. Don’t miss your window — get your skills assessment sorted first!
