ANU and Macquarie University reach an alumni-priority agreement

A partnership between the Australian National University (ANU) and Macquarie University offers alumni a special benefit: a fee reduction on postgraduate programmes at either university. Both universities offer their alumni a postgraduate support scheme to help them return to study and upgrade their skills. Now, this 10% fee reduction has been extended so that it can be used reciprocally.

This new fee reduction is just the first step in the partnership between the Australian National University and Macquarie University. The partnership also gives international students at both universities the opportunity to study on exchange at the other university, broadening their experience in Australia.

ANU Vice-Chancellor Professor Brian Schmidt said: “ANU and Macquarie are complementary institutions. When we combine our expertise in teaching and research with the diverse experiences of our two cities, we can offer students an incredible experience. We are delighted to partner between these two leading Australian universities.”

Macquarie University Vice-Chancellor Professor S Bruce Dowton said: “This study-support scheme will encourage alumni of both top universities to engage in lifelong learning. The international exchange programme means Macquarie’s international students can gain experience from the brightest minds at the Australian National University while exploring the national capital. At the same time, the Australian National University’s international students can experience Australia’s business capital in Sydney and take part in award-winning Macquarie University programmes, such as our Global Leadership Program.”

Eligible alumni can apply for the postgraduate support scheme through the scholarships page on the university website. Applications for the student exchange programme will open on 1 May 2023, with exchanges starting in Semester 1, 2024.

The two initiatives announced today are just the beginning of ongoing cooperation under an agreement signed in April 2021.
