Can the Points Go Even Lower? Accounting / IT / Engineering Invited at 65 Points for Subclass 190! WA Issues 2,500 Invitations in March Round!

Last Friday, WA (Western Australia) issued its March-round pre-invitations, and once again WA did not disappoint. The General stream (open to interstate and overseas applicants) issued 1,900 Subclass 190 pre-invitations, with most occupations invited at an EOI score of 65 points and only a few requiring 70 points. The Graduate stream issued 600 pre-invitations.

As in the February round, no Subclass 491 invitations were issued in the March round —
Because Subclass 491 has no hard work-related requirement, the acceptance rate after invitation is likely higher than for Subclass 190, so the state government may have received a large volume of formal applications awaiting assessment, and has paused Subclass 491 invitations for now.

General stream Sch2 Subclass 190 application requirements —
– An EOI score of 65 points
– The nominated occupation appears on the relevant WA list, with a skills assessment
– A six-month job offer in WA for the nominated occupation
– English of four 6s
– Applications can be lodged whether you live in WA, interstate or overseas

Latest invitation update —
– This round has already dropped to the minimum threshold for an invitation, 65/70 points
– At present the vast majority of invitations still go to applicants who have relocated to WA

Local Graduate stream —
This stream actually covers even more eligible occupations than the General stream, but the invitation scores are higher — one reason only 600 pre-invitations were issued.

As at the end of February 2023, WA still had 3,587 Subclass 190 state-nomination places remaining, a utilisation rate of only around 33%, so with more than three months left in the financial year, the allocation remains very ample. We have also seen the state government speed up processing recently.
WA still strongly favours applicants willing to relocate locally; many of our clients have received an invitation soon after moving there. So rather than waiting and watching, we recommend making the move sooner!
