Why have humanitiesoccupations historicallybeen unpopular

The key reason is that humanities occupations aremostly not on the MLTSSL (Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List), which means you cannot apply for visas such as Subclass 189 or Subclass 186. As a result, everyone has assumed they must pursue a particular field or a particular line of work, and has pinned all their hopes on the same occupation.

This has meant that the many VET migration occupations have had relatively few applicants, so naturally the competition on points has not been as fierce.

Humanities

How do humanities and commerce occupations apply for askills assessment?

Most humanities and commerce occupations are assessed by the VET assessing authority, formally known as VETASSESS — one of the main assessing authorities designated by the Department of Home Affairs. It primarily assesses professional occupations and trade occupations. VET occupations are divided into six groups, A\B\C\D\E\F, each with different requirements; meet the requirements and your application can succeed. Of these, Groups A\B\C\D cover the common occupations.

[Group A occupations]

A relevant bachelor’s degree or higher, plus at least 1 year of relevant work experience

[Group B occupations]

-A relevantbachelor’s degree or higher, plus at least 1 year of relevant work experience; OR

-A non-relevantbachelor’s degree or higher +a relevantCertificate IV, plus at least 2 years of relevant work experience; OR

-A non-relevant bachelor’s degree or higher, plus at least 3 years of relevant work experience

[Group C occupations]

-A relevant diploma or higherqualification, plus at least 1 year of relevant work experience; OR

-A non-relevant diploma or higher + a relevant Certificate IV, plus at least 1 year of relevant work experience; OR

-A non-relevant diploma or higher, plus at least 2 years of relevant work experience

[Group D occupations]

-A relevant Certificate IV or higher, plus at least 1 year of relevant work experience; OR

-A non-relevant Certificate IV or higher, plus at least 2 years of relevant work experience; OR

-A relevant Certificate III or higher, plus at least 3 years of relevant work experience

With today’s “floodgates open” policy,whoever can complete their skills assessment first and lodge first will most likely be invited ahead of everyone else!So the key to winning is completing your VET skills assessment quickly. Applicants fall into two situations:if you hold an overseas qualification (including Hong Kong and Macau), you can be exempted from China’s qualification verification.

But if you hold a qualification from mainland China,the first step you need to complete is VETASSESS qualification verification.The processing time for this step is approximatelyaround 2 months。

Can you still lodge via the priority channel?

Once qualification verification is complete, we can choose thepriority channelto lodge the VET skills assessment;assessment can be completed within 10 business days! However, at this stage the priority channelhas only 55 spots worldwide each day, so having a professional help you secure a spot is the key to success!
