NSW Subclass 190 First March Round | Market at 70/75 Points, Several Finance Invites, Accounting Score Drops Too! More Offshore Invitations, Engineering/Audit Still Steady!

Today, 16 March, NSW issued its invitations for the March round.

Change in the frequency of rounds:
In January and February this year, NSW ran two rounds per month. The previous NSW round was on 15 February, which means this round has come a full month later.

Number of invitations issued:
The number of invitations in this roundhas shrunk compared with the previous few rounds
As we noted earlier, as at the end of February NSW had just over 3,500 Subclass 190 places remaining, with a utilisation rate already above 65%, and over the past week or two NSW has also approved many applications that received a pre-invitation in the mid-February round. So it is clear that the current NSW Subclass 190 quota is sufficient, but it is no longer abundant with plenty to spare.A reduction in both volume and frequency was to be expected.

Occupations and points invited
The occupations invited this round differ somewhat from previous rounds.
1. A larger proportion went to offshore applicants, with finance, marketing, external audit and accounting, organisation-related fields, and engineering occupations such as civil and electrical engineering among those invited. Most invitation scores were in the 70–80 point range, for example a marketing specialist invited at 70/75 points. Most offshore applicants who received invitations had extensive relevant work experience.
2、Accounting dropped to 95+5 points for an invitation, whereas previous rounds were at 100+5 points. It is the single most competitive occupation, so every 5-point drop counts.
3、Auditing remained at the 85+5 point invitation level, with fewer invitations than previous rounds — perhaps the applicant pool has already been cleared?
4、Engineering also fared well this round, with civil, mechanical and electrical engineers all invited at 80–90 points
5. Curiously, as at the time of writing we have not seenany IT occupation receive an invitation. If we have missed any, please let us know in the comments.

In fact, with roughly three months of the financial year left, the invitation picture and trends for NSW Subclass 190 and Victoria are now fairly clear.

If you have been repeatedly disappointed not to see your occupation, or if you are still well short of the invitation cut-off, then options such as Western Australia state nomination, NSW Subclass 491 and Canberra (ACT) state nomination, as well as Queensland, which may have eased its criteria previously, are all good Plan B options right now.

If you are in an occupation NSW favours — finance, marketing, engineering, auditing and the like — complete your skills assessment as early as possible and keep building your points while you wait — you still have a strong chance!
