State Nomination Quotas Shift Again

SA Adds 800

VIC Adds 1,400 More to 190

On 12 April, three states made minor adjustments to their nomination quotas.

Based on past experience, this is likely in response to state-government demand — much as in previous years, when quotas ran short towards the end of the financial year and were topped up.

SA added 300 to the 190 and 500 to the 491.

By the end of February, SA had used close to 80% of its quota, and both the 491 and the 190 were running short — so this is a net increase of 800 places in total!

VIC Moves 1,400 from 491 to 190

VIC has made an internal transfer, shifting 1,400 places from its 491 quota to the 190. The overall total is unchanged, but the 190 quota now stands at 12,900 — a record high. With more places available, we hope VIC can spare some for non-fast-track occupations!

TAS has likewise shifted 150 places from its 491 quota to the 190.

After the adjustment, the total quotas for this financial year are 2,150 for the 190 and 2,100 for the 491. As at 12 April 2023, 1,509 of the 190 places had been used (70% of the total), and 1,457 of the 491 places had been used (69.38% of the total). Processing has reached applications lodged on 23 March 2023, with an invitation rate of 80%.

Quotas for the other states are unchanged.

Unlike in previous years, the Canberra, NSW 491, WA and NT 491 streams all currently have ample quota — so get your skills assessment done and lodge quickly; there are still plenty of opportunities!

There are two more state-nomination updates today, both with plenty of quota still remaining — well worth a close look!

Plenty of Quota —NSW 491Invitations Keep Coming!

On 29 March, the NSW 491 quietly delivered a flurry of invitations, and less than a fortnight later another round has arrived today.

This round went largely to popular occupations. Several of our ICT clients received invitations with a base score of just 65-80 points, and we also gathered several External Auditor invitations with base scores of 75/80.

The next NSW 491 opportunity liesin the State stream (pathway 2 or pre-invitation pathway ). This stream requires you to first receive a pre-invitation, then lodge your documents, and finally obtain a formal nomination from the state government.

Application requirements:

– Can be lodged onshore or offshore; onshore applicants must have lived in any part of NSW, including Sydney, for three months

– An EOI of at least 65 points (50 points reached on your own)

– An occupation on the list with a valid skills assessment, including computing, auditing, engineering, finance, public relations, marketing and many others

Quota to Spare —CanberraInvitations Flowing Across Every Stream!

The official invitation data for the 5 April round has been released.

The Small Business 190 issued 11 invitations, requiring only a Matrix score of 70 (ideal for accounting and IT applicants who can no longer compete in NSW)

The Small Business 491 issued 3 invitations, requiring only a Matrix score of 60.

The general onshore stream issued 281 invitations for the 190 and 227 for the 491.

The offshore stream issued 154 invitations for the 190 and 1,403 for the 491.

*Regarding these 1,403 offshore 491 invitations, the state government has stated that the Matrix system received a large number of suspected fraudulent submissions from overseas, leading to an excessive number of invitations being issued in this round.

Canberra is not about competing on EOI score — 65 points is enough

and the Matrix invitation scores for all occupations keep falling.

Lodgement requirements about to ease

In addition, Canberra will soon lower the entry thresholds for lodging an application: the requirements for four 7s in English, continuous employment, and three years of work experience for offshore applicants may be removed or relaxed — stay tuned!

Plenty of quota still left

With less than three months left in this financial year, Canberra still has 982 places for the 190 — about 327 a month — plus 742 places for the 491, around 247 a month available!

Get assessed now —

there is still time for the NSW 491

and Canberra nomination, and every chance to succeed
