From today, no PCR test required to return to China

Item One

The good news has finally arrived: from this Saturday, 29 April, no PCR test is required to travel to China.

At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regular press conference held on 25 April, spokesperson Mao Ning announced that, in order to further facilitate the movement of people between China and other countries, and following the principles of being scientific, precise, safe and orderly, China will further optimise its pre-departure testing arrangements.

Mao Ning explained that, from 29 April, all travellers to China may:

Replace the PCR test with an antigen test taken within 48 hours before check-in.

Airlines will no longer check pre-boarding test certificates.

What is an antigen test?

An antigen test detects results on a test strip via the antigen–antibody binding reaction. It is convenient and quick, with results usually available in 15–20 minutes. You can collect the sample and run the test yourself, with no need to send it to a laboratory.

On entry you must complete the Customs Health Declaration Card.

You can complete it by scanning the QR code via the “Customs Traveller Fingertip Service” WeChat mini-program, or through the “Pocket Customs” App or the web version.

According to Australian government statistics, as of 2021 the technology sector added 33,000 new jobs over the previous three years.
