Subclass 189 issues an invitation rain after six months — but “no surprises”? SA exhausts its 190 places and closes applications on 8 June. Has Victoria issued its final round?

After a six-month gap, Subclass 189 has suddenly issued another invitation round today. The number of invitations again runs into the thousands, but the occupations invited held few surprises:
– For the most part these were the usual priority occupations — the standard invitation categories such as teaching, social work, nursing and medical roles
– Most successful applicants were invited with scores between 65 and 85 points
– In this round we have not yet seen accounting, IT or engineering occupations

Some of the invitation data we have compiled from our clients is set out below:
Health and Medical —
General Practitioner – 253111 — minimum invited score 80 points, onshore
Medical Laboratory Scientist – 234611 — minimum invited score 75 points, both onshore and offshore
Medical Diagnostic Radiographer – 25121 — minimum invited score 65 points, onshore
Occupational Therapist – 252411 — minimum invited score 70 points, onshore
Physiotherapist – 252511 — minimum invited score 70 points, onshore
Registered Nurse (Critical Care and Emergency) – 254415 — minimum invited score 65 points, both onshore and offshore
Registered Nurses nec – 254499 — minimum invited score 65 points, onshore
Speech Pathologist – 252712 — minimum invited score 75 points, onshore

Education —
Early Childhood (Pre-primary School) Teacher – 241111 — minimum invited score 65 points, both onshore and offshore
Secondary School Teacher – 241411 — minimum invited score 65 points, onshore

Social Work —
Social Worker – 272511 — minimum invited score 65 points, onshore

While the volume of invitations in this round was substantial, the range of occupations held few surprises and was less “exciting” than the 8 December round. And although the number of invitations was high, the data we have seen shows that many of those invited had already secured a Subclass 190 application, so there were still a great many invalid applications. This round is also essentially the final Subclass 189 invitation round for this financial year, so applicants in other occupations may have to wait until the next financial year.

The new financial year will begin soon and Subclass 189 will continue to issue invitations, so a reminder to everyone still on the fence: get your skills assessment underway and your English results ready, so you do not miss out when the invitation comes!

In addition, the state-nomination channels for this financial year are closing one by one, and invitations are largely drawing to a close

Victoria issued its third invitation round for May yesterday, expected to be its final round for this financial year. Some of the invitation results we are aware of are as follows —
– Electrical Engineer: 85 points
– General Accountant: 90 points
– Financial Investment Adviser: 85 points
– Developer Programmer: 85 points
– Software Engineer: 90 points
– ICT Business Analyst: 95 points
– Telecommunications Engineer: 80 points
– Chemical Engineer: 70 points
– Registered Nurse: 65 points
– Enrolled Nurse: 65 points
– Social Worker: 70 points

Victoria has now closed its ROI applications for state nomination and will most likely reopen in July. Whether applications already in the pool will need to be resubmitted is awaiting news in the new financial year.

South Australia has also announced that its Subclass 190 places for this financial year are exhausted and that skilled migration applications will close on 8 June. Applicants who have already lodged are being offered the following options:

– Carry over to receive an invitation in the next financial year;

– The option of a Subclass 491 nomination in the current financial year;

– A full refund of the application fee.

Looking at this financial year’s invitation results, whether under Subclass 189 or the various state nominations, occupations such as nursing and early childhood education have consistently been in strong demand in Australia — almost an invitation as soon as you lodge. Secondary school teachers have likewise been highly sought after in recent years, with Australia facing a serious shortage of these professionals.

State nomination in most states has now closed or is about to close for this financial year, and invitations are drawing to a close. For anyone who has not yet started preparing for migration, we stress once again:

Start your skills assessment as early as possible and get your English results ready — invitations can be issued at any time once the new financial year begins. Beyond Subclass 189, keep a close eye on the state-nomination opportunities in every state.

For those who have already secured their visa, congratulations. For those who have not yet — and even those who are not yet in the EOI pool — do what you can, get your documents in order, and check that none of your materials have expired. An invitation could arrive at any time, so be ready.

We look forward to hearing more good news from everyone in the new financial year!
