Migration Weekly
5. Weekly roundup: grants, invitations, skills assessments and citizenship processing progress
Inviting these occupations isn’t really a problem in itself, but the Department of Home Affairs doesn’t seem to have realised that, heading into the second half of the financial year, every state nomination program is competing for these same occupations. Among our own clients, most of those who received a Subclass 189 invitation this round had already been invited under a state nomination program — and some had already been granted.
Some of our invitation data is as follows:
Healthcare —
General Practitioner – 253111, invited from a minimum of 80 points, onshore
Medical Laboratory Scientist – 234611, invited from a minimum of 75 points, both onshore and offshore
Medical Diagnostic Radiographer – 25121, invited from a minimum of 65 points, onshore
Occupational Therapist – 252411, invited from a minimum of 70 points, onshore
Physiotherapist – 252511, invited from a minimum of 70 points, onshore
Registered Nurse (Critical Care and Emergency) – 254415, invited from a minimum of 65 points, both onshore and offshore
Registered Nurses nec – 254499, invited from a minimum of 65 points, onshore
Speech Pathologist – 252712, invited from a minimum of 75 points, onshore
Education —
Early Childhood (Pre-primary School) Teacher – 241111, invited from a minimum of 65 points, both onshore and offshore
Secondary School Teacher – 241411, invited from a minimum of 65 points, onshore
Social Work —
Social Worker – 272511, invited from a minimum of 65 points, onshore

Fortunately, the Subclass 189 grant quota for the new financial year remains substantial — in fact larger than this year’s — so the number of invitations should be something to look forward to. Applicants in other occupations can look ahead to the new financial year about to begin, planning across the Subclass 189 / 190 / 491 / employer-sponsored pathways at the same time!In the meantime, get your English test and skills assessment sorted as soon as possible. 3. SA’s Subclass 190 quota is exhausted — applications close on 8 June! Tasmania still has ample quota at the end of the financial year
1. Carry over to the next financial year and wait for an invitation
2. Accept an invitation for Subclass 491
3. Accept a full refund of the application fee
The state government will proactively contact all affected applicants to arrange the next steps!

Tasmania, by contrast, still has fairly ample quota at the end of the financial year. At this week’s information session, the state government advised that
as at 24 May 2023:
Applications under processing (including invitations issued but not yet accepted): 230
Subclass 491 total quota: 2100, quota used: 1834, quota remaining: 266
of which, Active ROIs: 257
Applications under processing (including invitations issued but not yet accepted): 200
Processing is currently up to applications lodged before 19 May 2023
With only one month left in the financial year, quota is relatively ample and the state nomination program is trending towards more generous invitation rounds. The state government is keeping its word — it will not close the ROI application channel and will continue issuing invitations until the quota is used up. It again confirmed that newly lodged applications will be processed within one week (other than particularly complex cases). The state government also indicated that policy for the new financial year will not change significantly — only minor tweaks. For more detail, see:May Tasmania seminar I New-financial-year state nomination policy to be fine-tuned! Ample quota at year-end means generous rounds! Processing accelerated to one week!
