This week’s migration news roundup
Migration Weekly
5. This week’s roundup of grants, invitations, skills assessments and citizenship processing progress
– State nomination quotas will be revealed in the coming weeks, with WA’s new financial year state nomination policy to be announced soon. The quotas for other states’ nominations are expected to be known around the same time.
–WA’s new financial year policy will only involve minor tweaks, and the state government will shortly publish the new financial year’s invitation rules and policy on its official website, possibly adding some occupations in short supply to the priority ranking. However, invitations in the new financial year will continue to be issued at a regular cadence, and it was disclosed that WA’s state nomination policy will remain steadily favourable for the next 2-3 years, especially the policy for locally graduated international students.
– In the second half of this financial year WAhas already been working to speed up the processing of nominations, with greater improvements to come in the new financial year. This week we have also seen Subclass 491 processing pick up pace, with a pre-invitation received in early May and the formal nomination received by the end of May.
WA’s current policy for local international graduates:Most common occupations are on the list. With four 6s in English and a skills assessment, you can apply for Subclass 190 without work experience or a job offer, and there are plenty of opportunities to be invited.By the second half of the financial year, even those who graduated in WA but are no longer in the state can be invited. The points required are also very low – most occupations, including popular ones, can be invited at 65-80 points.
WA is home to renowned institutions such as the University of Western Australia and Curtin University – get in touch with us to assess and discuss your study or migration options!

2. NSW RDA stream now only processing regional cases on a priority basis; invitation roundup
Last week we explained thatthe NSW Subclass 491 RDA stream now only accepts applications from three regions: Far West, South Coast and Sydney. This week we have seen the RDA prioritise processing, with some clients told that the Hunter region is helping the Sydney region process some applications,to avoid being unable to finish processing applications before the end of the financial year.
The invitation data we have seen this week is as follows, with points still very low and invitations continuing to concentrate on offshore applicants – the majority of whom we are seeing are engineering applicants. Offshore applicants, or offshore applicants on lower points, can try the State government stream, where the points required are just as low.
