When it comes to Australian universities and their best majors, beyond the eight “Group of Eight” (Go8) universities there are plenty of other excellent universities and majors for students to choose from. Here are some non-Go8 universities and their standout majors:

Macquarie University
Standout majors:
Faculty of Business and Finance: accounting, finance, marketing
Faculty of Arts: psychology, media, international relations
Faculty of Science and Engineering: computer science, biological science, physics
Gaokao acceptance: in 2022, Macquarie accepted applicants with a Gaokao score of 420 for its undergraduate programmes.
Other pathways: Chinese students with a high-school average of at least 75% are eligible to apply

RMIT University
Standout majors:
College of Business and Economics: accounting, finance, marketing
School of Art and Design: film and television production, art and design
School of Engineering: computer engineering, electronic and communications engineering, mechanical engineering
Gaokao acceptance: in 2022, RMIT accepted applicants with a Gaokao score of 441 for its undergraduate programmes.
Other pathways: Chinese students with a high-school average of at least 75% are eligible to apply


Skip the Gaokao and enrol directly




Of course, besides applying for an undergraduate degree with a Gaokao result, students from mainland China can also use their three-year high-school grade average as a percentage benchmark to apply directly for an Australian undergraduate degree. This pathway does not require a Gaokao transcript.

Who it suits:
students who have completed high school with strong ongoing results.

Advantages:
you can enter the first year of an undergraduate degree directly, saving the time spent on a foundation programme.
Three-year high-school grade requirement:
a three-year high-school average of 70%–90% or above.

IELTS requirement:
6.0–7.0, with some majors requiring higher; an English language course can be added.
