Highly ranked universities

Malaysia has them!

[High rankings]
2023 QS World University Rankings (overall): Malaysia vs Chinese universities

2023 QS Asia Rankings: Malaysia vs mainland Chinese universities

[High teaching quality]
The QS World University Rankings are the only world university rankings endorsed by the International Ranking Expert Group. In 2022 they assessed 5,500 universities to rank the world’s top 1,000. Academic reputation accounts for 40% (drawing on the opinions of more than 10,000 experts and scholars in higher education to rate teaching and research quality); employer reputation 10% (gathering more than 50,000 employer responses); student-to-faculty ratio 20% (the higher the ratio, the more access each student has to teaching staff and the lighter each teacher’s load); citations per faculty member 20%; and international staff ratio plus international student ratio 5% + 5%.

[Qualifications recognised in China]
Malaysian institutions are not only highly ranked — their qualifications are also recognised by the China Service Centre for Scholarly Exchange (CSCSE) under the Ministry of Education, with a high proportion of international students and a culturally diverse environment. Programmes are taught entirely in English, and the qualifications are highly recognised for returning home to work, sitting civil-service and public-sector exams, obtaining household registration, or continuing to postgraduate study in another country. Rather than grinding it out in fierce domestic competition, why not study overseas and earn a prestigious degree with ease!

A budget under one hundred thousand

Malaysia can do it!

Undergraduate tuition fees in Malaysia run roughly 20,000-40,000 RMB a year, with living costs of 20,000-30,000 RMB a year,Many universities provide quality on-campus accommodation, which means in other words a budget of 70,000-80,000 RMB a year is plenty.

During their studies, students can also work part-time to cover living costs, and tuition fees are paid by semester. Compared with Europe, the US and Australia — where costs run anywhere from 200,000-300,000 to over a million a year — this is fantastic value! It’s ideal for children of working-class families.

In terms of daily life, Malaysia is a multi-ethnic, multicultural country whose population is made up mainly of three major ethnic groups, with ethnic Chinese making up a quarter of the population. Even international students whose English isn’t strong when they first arrive in Malaysia can adapt and settle in well.

Malaysia also has clear advantages when it comes to flight distance, time difference and climate.

99% of institutions teach entirely in English

Return home after graduating, or go on to further study in Europe, the US or Australia

Academically, English is one of the official languages. As a former British colony, Malaysia follows the Commonwealth education system and ranks third in Asia for English proficiency and usage, offering an excellent language environment. Most universities teach entirely in English, and students who graduate from Malaysian universities come away with fluent English.

Malaysian institutions have exchange agreements with many universities in the UK and Australia. INTI University and SEGi University, for example, offer twinning programmes whose qualifications are recognised worldwide. Many undergraduate graduates who later wish to pursue further study in another country can do so without sitting IELTS.

And of course, as mentioned above, for those who want to return home and start work straight after graduating, many Malaysian institutions’ qualifications are recognised by the China Service Centre for Scholarly Exchange (CSCSE) under the Ministry of Education.
