Education Department to Allow AI Tools Like ChatGPT from Next Year
NO.1
According to a recent report by The Guardian Australia, the Australian Education Minister announced that from 2024, all Australian schools will be permitted to use artificial intelligence technologies including ChatGPT.
Since ChatGPT was released late last year, discussions around AI tools have been highly polarised. Due to concerns over privacy and plagiarism, all Australian states and territories, except South Australia, had temporarily restricted the use of ChatGPT in public schools.
More recently, the Education Minister stated that ChatGPT has become an important learning tool, much like calculators or the internet, and students are actively using it. Private schools and their students are already using it, making it essential to learn how to use the tool properly. States, territories and non-government school sectors will work with their respective education systems to implement this framework from Term 1 next year.
Additionally, an investment of $1 million will be made to the Australian Department of Education to establish “product expectations” for generative AI technologies. The organisation has been in contact with education product suppliers, estimating that 90% of suppliers will integrate AI into their technologies within the next few years.
Despite legitimate concerns, the Education Minister emphasised that restricting AI use only in the independent and Catholic school sectors could create an inequitable system. The education community is calling for balanced development and regulated use, ensuring both students and teachers can adapt to AI technology.
Overall, this decision represents an important step by the Australian education sector towards integrating AI technology into schools, while also acknowledging the challenges involved, including privacy and teacher training.
A global report published by UNESCO stressed the urgent need for management and regulation of education technology to prevent it from replacing traditional face-to-face teaching. The report also emphasised the importance of teaching children how to live both with and without technology. This decision will help Australia’s education system better adapt to the educational demands of the 21st century.

AI is not only sparking reform across the education sector but also placing AI professionals at the forefront of future employment opportunities。 Artificial intelligence is reshaping the Australian job market. NSW and Victoria are the first states showing signs of AI-driven workforce transformation, accounting for the vast majority of new AI-related jobs in Australia. In 2012, there were 756 job advertisements in Australia requiring AI skills, and by 2021, that number had reached 20,505.The latest research from economic consultancy Mandala Partners shows that private sector investment in AI is growing, with banks, consulting firms and accounting firms leading the way。The Federal Government, Commonwealth Bank, Deloitte, Amazon and Macquarie Bank have the most employees with AI technical skills.Industries with the Highest AI Capital Investment in 2022(Source: Mandala) However, the research also reveals a gap between different states and industries in the development of AI technology.NSW, Victoria and the ACT perform strongly in technology development, while Queensland and Western Australia fall below expected baselines.AI Research Output by Australian State and Territory, 2018-2022(Source: Department of Industry, Science and Resources, Australian

Unlock a Hidden Gem for Migration + Employment: Speech Pathology
NO.4
In Australia, there is a relatively niche yet highly valuable migration profession — Speech Pathologist. The day-to-day work of this role involves assessing, diagnosing and treating patients with communication and swallowing disorders,as well as working to prevent these disorders from occurring. These language disorders may be caused by congenital developmental issues or autism, or by acquired conditions such as stroke or traumatic brain injury.Although becoming a speech pathologist requires overcoming language barriers across different countries, more importantly it involves bridging cultural differences and communicating with vulnerable groups who have communication disorders. Speech pathologists typically possess resilience and a genuine concern for global communities. Their goal goes beyond sympathy for vulnerable groups — they are committed to providing support and helping them overcome challenges.Employment & SalaryIn Australia, speech pathologists enjoy relatively high salaries as they work in the healthcare-related sector. The average annual salary typically ranges from $85,000 to $100,000 AUD. In some regional areas of Australia, demand for speech pathologists is so high that some organisations need to fly in practitioners from other cities, paying up to $200 AUD per hour.(Source: SEEK)Migration PathwaysAdditionally, the speech pathology profession offers excellent migration prospects in Australia. The occupation is listed on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL), making it eligible for Subclass 189, 190 and 491 visa categories. Various states also list speech pathologist as a priority occupation for state nomination. Skills assessment for speech pathology does not require work experience — you only need to complete a course accredited by Speech Pathology Australia.Healthcare-related occupations consistently receive invitations at low points scores across all migration streams in Australia, and speech pathology is no exception. For instance, in last financial year’s Subclass 189 invitation round, candidates only needed the minimum EOI score of 65 points to receive an invitation! A truly outstanding migration profession! Entry Requirements & Tuition OverviewEntry requirements for speech pathology programmes include English proficiency, typically requiring an IELTS score of 7.0 in all four bands or a PTE score of 65 in all four components. Furthermore, undergraduate speech pathology programmes do not require a specific academic background, although postgraduate programmes require prior study in areas such as human anatomy, linguistics, research methods and/or evidence-based practice.Course structures for speech pathology may vary slightly between universities, but typically include core subjects such as Introduction to Public Health, Foundations of Speech Pathology, Speech Pathology Practice, and Optimising Communication and Swallowing.Tuition fees for speech pathology programmes generally range from $45,000 to $55,000 AUD per year, although high-achieving students may be eligible for scholarships covering up to 25% of total tuition.
